Weekly News & Updates

September 27, 2024

First and foremost, as you read this, Hurricane Helene is making its way through the state, I pray that you and your loved ones are staying safe. Should you need anything after the storm has made its way through, please let me know and we will do what we can to help you, even if it's providing the church to charge up devices or store perishable items - that is, of course, as long as the church keeps power!

As for the weekend: it's gonna be a good one! Doing something a little different on the 5th Sunday, worship will be held around tables in the Fellowship Hall while enjoying brunch together! The Mission Ministry Team will provide egg casseroles and drinks - you are asked to bring a breakfast bread or fruit to share. While we eat, nine of the FOURTEEN ministry partners of our church will share how our connection to them helps further their respective missions and ministries as we serve as Christ's hands and feet. I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday morning at 10!

There are many events going on in the life of the church in the next couple of weeks as the calendar turns from September to October. Please make sure to read on below to learn more, mark your calendars, and plan to be there!

See you in Worship!

Pastor Kathryn

p.s. If you can help the Church Life Ministry Team tomorrow morning, many hands make light work and it would be appreciated!

Worship & Music Highlights

Worship is In-Person ONLY!

Worship this Sunday is in the Fellowship Hall for Brunch Church that will highlight some of our mission partners. The Mission Ministry Team will provide the egg casseroles and drinks - you are asked to bring a breakfast bread or fruit to share.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of technology in the Fellowship Hall, the service will not be livestreamed. However, attempts will be made to record key parts of the service for a video to be watched later.

Mission Ministry Team Highlights

The Mission Ministry Team looks forward to seeing you in worship on Sunday to learn more about many of our ministry partners!

Support Backpack Beginnings

Wondering what to do with all of those grocery shopping bags? The Missions Ministry Team collects “gently used” plastic grocery bags for Backpack Beginnings. Please bring any you don’t use to church with you, leaving them in the marked box in the Dogwood Lobby closest to the double doors leading towards the classrooms.

If you are interested in walking with Pastor Kathryn and members of YOCO or supporting walkers (or both!) please talk to Pastor Kathryn.

Notes from the Office

Elder Nominations Needed!

The Congregational Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the next class of Ruling Elders to serve on Session. Office Volunteers Needed!

The church building is bustling these days with outside groups utilizing the wonderful facility we have. With all of the ins and outs that take place, an extra person would be helpful to assist with answering the phone or questions our visitors may have. If you are able to help on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, please click the button below.

I can help in the office!

Enrichment Hour for '24-'25 Program Year

Just like last year, each Sunday of the month during the program year is a different theme:

  • The First Sunday of the Month: Benevolence & Brunch - the Church Life Ministry Team's "spread" in the Dogwood Lobby may be a bit more elaborate on these mornings, encouraging everyone to stay and chat. Concurrently, the Missions Ministry Team collects donations for Greensboro Urban Ministries.
  • The Second Sunday of the Month: Education for Everyone - opportunities for learning takes place for all ages, from preschool to adults.
  • The Third Sunday of the Month: Ministry Team Meet-Up - the Ministry Teams do the work of the church; all are welcome to plug in and find a place to serve!
  • The Fourth Sunday of the Month: Small Group Sunday - opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with other members of the Fellowship Family through a common interest.

Small Group Opportunities - Looking for More!

The Fourth Sunday of the Month is a time for Small Groups - do you have an idea? There are some small groups that are already in the works:

  • By Hook or By Shepherd's Crook - the Crochet Ministry Team will meet to create beautiful items for those in need.
  • Men's Bible Study will begin a new study, starting on the 22nd.
  • Do you have other ideas? A specific book to study, perhaps? Checking out new coffee shops? Discussing Current Events? Playing board games? Let Pastor Kathryn know!

FFFL is on to Something!

The Presbyterian Outlook magazine, an independent publication focused on the news and needs of the denomination, published an article this week about how one church in Texas is using Fantasy Football to connect church members, one to another. To read the article, please click here.
