I was recently asked about what I do from noon on Sunday until 9 am the following Sunday.
Despite the joke, "you know, a Pastor only works one hour on Sundays", this person was legitimately asking what it is that I do outside of worship time.
Preparing this week for an upcoming monthly Session meeting this Sunday after worship, I was writing up my monthly Pastor's Report - one that allows me to ensure that the Session - and Fellowship - better understand the ins-and-outs of what I do outside of when everyone sees me...for one hour (or so) on Sunday morning.
Sure - there are meetings. Some of them are for the business of the church, including Stewardship. Then there are meetings with individuals and families for Pastoral Care. Finally, I continue to meet with colleagues and members of the Greensboro community, exploring ways for Fellowship Presbyterian Church to engage, be recognized, and make a positive impact in the lives of others.
There are also those times when opportunities come up to spend a few hours connecting with members of the Fellowship family on "odd jobs" around the church. One of those is something that has been on my radar since I arrived - a "closet" (room) overrun with art and craft supplies that hasn't received the care and attention it needs since the Day School closed. Well, this week was it! Two members of the Fellowship family said they had time - and desire - to tackle the project. With thanks to Jennifer Limbaugh and Evelyn Patterson, the art closet has a new life, and donations will be made to Reconsidered Goods in the process. This example is but a slice of the "random" things that can fill holes in my schedule very quickly. And while I only spent a fraction of the time that the two of them did on the project, I enjoyed talking about all sorts of things in the process.
