What is "Clergy Renewal"? A different way to name "sabbatical". As my 5th (!) anniversary approaches this June, I become eligible for a sabbatical to have an extended rest to find renewal over a 12-week period. While it's something I've been focused on this week, it's not something that would take place until May 2026. So, then, why would I focus my time now? Due to the generosity of the Lilly Endowment, this program provides up to $60,000 to the congregation so that both this Fellowship Family and I are able to both be renewed through ministry and programs during those three months we would be apart. The good news? With the help and support of the Personnel and Administrative Ministry Team, I was able to successfully submit the grant on time. The bad news? We won't find out until August 29th if we are awarded the grant...such a bummer!
The grant is, understandably, competitive, so there are only so many who will be able to celebrate - and I pray that may be us as well. However, the word for this Sunday's focus in our Lenten series was quite appropriate: "Lament" - the thing I would be doing should the grant response not be in our favor. But "Lament" is not just something reserved for things like this - have you experienced lament? If so, what has it looked like in your life? How, if at all, has it affected your faith? we will examine those questions - and others - this Sunday in worship. I hope you will join us, whether in-person or online. It's bound to be a wonderful time together, particularly since we will welcome FIVE new members officially into our Fellowship family...and then will do it all again NEXT Sunday when we welcome three more who are unable to be with us this week. The Holy Spirit is definitely at work at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, if you ask me...
I pray you all are doing well and that you're able to enjoy what is forecasted to be a wonderful weekend. Dare I say Spring has sprung?
With gratitude,
Pastor Kathryn
