Weekly News & Updates

February 9, 2024

While catching up with a friend over coffee this week, she asked how things were going, particularly when it came to the church. I had to stop for a moment and just let life kind of catch up to me in my brain: so much has happened in the first five weeks of the year - and it's been wonderful! I pray that others feel as if 2024 at Fellowship has been a good start, with a feeling not only of hope but of excitement and energy for what has already taken place, what is coming up in the next couple of weeks, and what is planned a little further out!

Already in 2024 we have had a great half-day retreat for the Session and Ministry Team leaders to work together while brainstorming goals for the church for this year - these will be shared at our Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, February 18, after the worship service. Worship has continued to be a joy to plan and be a part of, as well as energy and excitement at events like Brunch Buddies and both the Men's and Women's Bible Studies!

Coming in the next few weeks include our Annual Meeting (mentioned above) as well as THIS Sunday - our NINETEENTH annual Chili Cookoff! It's sure to be a wonderful event. Thank you, in advance, to all who are working on their chili and dessert recipes - please know we will need people there to enjoy them as well!

Also quickly coming up is the start of Lent, which begins THIS Wednesday, February 14, with Ash Wednesday. Yes, it's Valentine's Day - apparently the last time this happened was 2018, so Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day on the same day is not an anomaly. I'll be in the Sanctuary at 6pm that evening to worship, knowing that Valentine's Day can be celebrated afterward - just make your dinner reservations for 7pm. 😉

Other exciting events are coming up quickly, including Wednesday Wisdom and Saturday Something. Please read on for more information about those connected events, as well as many others in the life of the congregation.

This Sunday, we will again hear the story of Jesus' Transfiguration, traditionally read on the last Sunday before Lent. What is this annual reading of this event with Jesus trying to say to us this year? Come to worship, starting at 10am, to find out.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday, if not before - and be sure to stay for the chili and dessert!

With joy and gratitude,

Pastor Kathryn
