Two Funding Programs Announced to Strengthen Energy Resilience in Rural Communities
On October 20th, the US Department of Energy (DOE) announced the $250 million Rural and Municipal Utility Advanced Cybersecurity Grant and Technical Assistance (RMUC) Program. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the program will help eligible utilities harden energy systems, processes, and assets; improve incident response capabilities; and increase cybersecurity skills in the utility workforce. Then on November 1st, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) announced that the US Department of Energy has provided $15 million to help co-ops deploy cybersecurity technologies. NRECA will use the funding to help electric cooperatives select tools, both hardware and software, to protect their industrial control systems from cyberthreats. Learn more at www.cooperative.com.
