Fall in Johnson County
There are a few remaining end-of-season chores you should take care of before you put the mower or fertilizer spreader away for the year:
- November lawn fertilization: November is the second most important month in the year for fertilizing your lawn. The grass is getting ready to go dormant but is still actively storing nutrients into its root system. This last important feeding will set your lawn up for an early spring green up.
- Kill spring weeds now: While you're at it, take advantage of a warm fall day to rid your lawn of unsightly spring weeds. Yes, it seems counter-intuitive. But you kill spring weeds in the fall.
- Rake less: Tired of raking and raking and more raking? Leaves left on the lawn all winter can smother the grass and destroy all your hard work. Find out how you can save your back from all that raking using your lawn mower.
- Prepare spring gardens now: The vegetables and summer annuals have all been yanked. If you take a little time preparing the garden beds this fall, you can save yourself tons of time next spring. Healthy plants start with healthy soil. Here's how to break up the clay.
