The Hansen kangaroos have on their thick winter coats and played in the first snowfall of the year in November. Though you probably wouldn't see this scene in Australia, our roos have adapted well to the Iowa climate. For those really cold days, they stay inside their barn where there is a thick layer of bedding and heat lamps to keep them toasty warm. It's fun to watch them bounce around in the snow!

|
We only had one $5 winner in our November CA$H COW contest, and no one found any of the 11 jugs labeled with $100 :( When you've finished your gallon of milk, be on the lookout for those winning jugs!
We will label 12 jugs with the big cash prize of $100 in December. Best chances to find them are right away at the beginning of the month! But make sure to keep looking throughout the month as we mark ten $5 jugs every week!
Look inside the jug toward the label to see a "5" or "100".

Alen Kajtezovic and his wife, Azra |
The December Customer of the Month is
Alen Kajtezovic of Waterloo.
Alen's first introduction to Hansen's Dairy products was visiting the Waterloo store to try the ice cream and asking the cashier how our milk is different from other brands.
"It really caught my attention, as I always try to shop for clean, healthy food with as little 'human touch' as possible," Alen said. His favorite products are Hansen's whole milk and ice cream, Oasis hummus and Iowa popcorn.
"Hansen's milk never makes my stomach upset, so the difference is really huge," he continued. "Milk is something that has been consumed by humans for ages, and these days there are so many people who cannot digest milk properly. I am convinced it is because of the kind of processed milk we've been drinking that our bodies don't like. So Hansen's milk is a step in the right direction ... one of a kind."
Thanks, Alen! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our
Facebook
and
Twitter
pages.

The December Cow of the Month has the perfect name.
Midnite was born in the middle of the night on Dec. 18, 2012, and her coat is mostly black.
She will celebrate her sixth birthday this month. In this season of giving, she is providing us with 124 pounds of milk a day!

Cooking with Hansen's
|
My parents used to grow popcorn and give it away as Christmas gifts to our extended family. For months, we'd save milk jugs, wash them out several times and let them dry completely so we could fill them with popcorn in December. We'd pick the ears by hand, shuck them, and then run them through my great uncle's corn sheller. We all had a chance to turn the crank and carefully feed the cobs into the hopper watching the yellow-orange kernels fill the tub below.
After hours picking through the kernels and fanning away the chaff by hand, we'd finally get to pop some. While we liked popcorn fixed several ways, this was one of our favorites. It's a variation from the Dedham, Iowa, cookbook (my dad's hometown). I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
