January 2017

Hours of Operation:
Noon to 5 pm, Mondays and Tuesdays,
Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Closed Sundays and Wednesdays.

Ring in the New Year with friends, fiber, frivolity and fellowship! Is this the year you learn a new skill, or improve an existing one? Have you resolved to spend more time with yarn in 2017? Fiber arts can be a tool to meditation, to assist your contemplative practice and help center your mind and energy, as many of us did with the recent Peace Project on Ravelry. We can help with the right tools, yarn and fiber as you continue to build peace in your life, one stitch at a time.

As we look back on 2016, we are so grateful for the privilege of your business. You could shop anywhere; we are honored that you choose Fiber Frenzy. Special events like the Quilt and Fiber Extravaganza, Festival of Learnshops, and I-75 Yarn Crawl introduced us to new friends.  We designed  hands on art workshops for elementary and high school students and hosted a few knitting groups in 2016. Maybe we met you through one of those events. Rest assured, we will continue to provide fine yarns and great service in the year ahead.

January might seem like a slow month when looking at our schedule, but that's because we are working hard in preparation for our annual retreat, Pins & Needles. If you haven't registered yet, never fear - it's not too late! Come with a friend, or come alone and meet your new besties! In addition to great learning opportunities (6 sessions, each with 3 workshops from which to choose!), there is plenty of fun and relaxation time, too.  Here's the link for the workshop descriptions

And here is the registration page

Learn to Knit Knockers
Learn how to start a knocker using Magic Loop method at 1 pm on Tuesday, January 10th.   Basic knitting techniques required for this class. There is n o class fee, but knocker yarn must be purchased from us prior to class.  To knit a knocker, you will need a size 4 or 5 circular needle, 40 or 47 inches, which is available to purchase from us.

Many friends have expressed the desire to knit knockers but don't have a good relationship with double point needles.  So, we are offering a glass cozy class knitted with double point needles to give you an opportunity to get comfortable with DPNs before trying to knit knockers.  There is only a $5 fee for the yarn, but you will need to purchase or bring DPNs, size 4 or 5.  You do need to know basic knitting techniques before trying DPN knitting.
Thursday,  January 12th , 1:30 pm, or  Tuesday,   January 17th , 3 pm.

Crochet or Knit Knockers Join us the first and third Thursday every month, 3 to 5 pm to make knockers.   Supplies are available at a discount.  Susan and Judy will gladly help you start your first knit or crochet knocker.
January 5th and 19th, 3 to 5 pm.

We have some special spinning days in January. On January 14, Jessica will be in the house, offering wheel and drop spindle lessons.  We have many spindles available for purchase and even some great kits that include 2 ounces of fiber to get started.  Spindle at noon, wheel at 1:00 p.m. Don't have a wheel?
Yo u can use one of ours for the lesson.  Call in advance to let us know how many.

Later that day, drop in for Frenzied Spinners, a social time to spin with friends old and new. Bring your wheel or spindle (or both), relax and spin a yarn, literally or figuratively. You'll find a great bunch of people and probably a snack or two! Frenzied Spinners meets from 2:00 - 5:00.

Teresa will join us on January 20 for D/S/T demonstrations and lessons from 2:00 - 5:00. What is D/S/T? Drop, Supported, and Turkish - three different types of spindles, which create yarns in slightly different ways. Some folks prefer one over the other - here's your chance to see them all and try your hand. This is a totally no-risk introduction to the world of spinning. Watch the demonstrations and decide what kind of lesson you'd like to do. It couldn't be any easier.  We have a good supply of spindles for you to try.

January 17th, (3rd Tuesday)
5 to 7 pm

Everyone needs fiber therapy, so bring your current project or start a new one. Feel free to bring snacks and we will just kick back and eat, laugh, have a good time, and hopefully do a little knitting and/or crocheting.  You will be amazed at how much fun you can have at "Therapy."
