The month starts out with a bang on  July 1, when we celebrate First Friday with a street fair on Broadway in Old Town Artists Village, right outside our front door.

This mon th the celebration is sponsored by MACED, the Mountain Association for Commun ity Economic Development. MACED will highlight some of the industries it has helped launch, including Fiber Frenzy.  Come for the street fair, have some great food, listen to some cool music, stop in and say hello.

Berea is the place to be in July! We proudly participate in the Festival of Learnshops,
July 8 - 24 . From pottery to poetry, baskets to blacksmithing there is something for everyone. We will be starting off new knitters and crocheters in Learnshop classes this year.

Our scheduled classes are July 8th and 9th for Learn to Knit, and July 11th and 19th for Learn to Crochet.

This is a great time of year to acquire a new skill  to start holiday gift making. Our classes through the rest of the year will have in mind skills for some great gifts.

Crochet or Knit KnockersFiber Frenzy has joined with Knittedknockers.org to sponsor handmade prostheses for women who have had a mastectomy.  Special patterns have been developed for both knit and crochet, to create soft, comfortable "knockers". Join us the first Thursday every month, 3 to 5 pm
, to knit and crochet knockers and learn how you can help women throughout Kentucky with this project. Supplies are available at a discount.

Noro L-Shaped Shawl. Time to start that great project to wear whenever there is a chill in the air (as in theaters, restaurants, etc.)   Mirai is our newest Noro yarn, a cotton/silk blend in DK weight. Using size 7 needles, this will be a fast, gorgeous project.  Class fee is $20.  Purchase yarn and needles from us prior to class. Tuesday, July 5th 1 pm, and again on Saturday 23rd at 1 pm.   colorways that richly stripe with no extra effort on your part!

Socks!Socks!Socks!  You might have noticed that we have offered knitting in the round classes lately, to acquaint you with using double pointed needles. Now let's put those skills to use and make a pair of socks! Joan teaches the architecture of a cuff-down sock in three sessions. The class starts at 10:00 on Tuesday, July 12 (cast on and work on the leg), then continues at the same hour on Monday, July 18 (heel and foot) and Monday, July 25 (close the toe).  Rest assured that we can adjust times to meet your schedule! The class fee is $45, plus materials.

Boom! Here's a sweet class to get you started on a perfect scarf for yourself or someone you love. Using simple increases and decreases, this project is perfect for gradient or self striping yarns, highlighting the transitions from color to color. This pattern is adjustable to any weight yarn. Try it with Kuryoptura, Souk, Paca Pura, Amitola or Nordlys. The class, which is free with yarn purchase, is offered on Saturday, July 16th at 11 am, and repeated on July 22nd.

Mosaic Cowl.  Wonderful effects can be achieved using 2 different yarns, 1 self striping, and 1 solid, and only knit stitches and slip stitches. Every 2 rows are knit with 1 color and you carry the other color along the edge, so there are not a lot of ends to hide.  This is a fast project that produces a wonderfully warm and beautiful fabric.  Perfect for that special person at gift time.  July 7th and 14th at 11 am. Class fee is $30.  Yarn and needles can be purchased prior to class.

Everyone needs fiber therapy, so bring your current project or start a new one. Feel free to bring snacks and we will just kick back and eat, laugh, have a good time, and hopefully do a little knitting and/or crocheting.  You will be amazed at how much fun you can have at "Therapy."

If you are in need of more "Therapy," please drop in any Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday afternoon and knit or crochet with us.  Friends are always welcome.

Quilt and Fiber Extravaganza! The Berea Arts Council annual expo is expanded this year to include all fiber arts!
