JUNE 2019

Summer really is here! This is the time of year for many of us when outside things happen in the mornings and evenings, and inside things happen midday.  Exercise, gardening, recreation are better
in the dewy mornings and early evening breezes. The in-between times are occupied with knitting and spinning.  We concentrate on small projects that don't rest on our laps and fabrics that breathe.  There is usually a sock in process, and maybe a lace cotton or cotton blend project.  Stitch by stitch, putting aside the worries of the day, we enjoy the warm days of summer.

Have you tried Xooker? It's a free app through which you earn points (by playing games and checking in) that get you discounts and special rewards at restaurants and shops. We are joining Xooker as a participating merchant. Download the app, then check in the next time you're in the shop for some great deals.

Sock Club is off to a great start!  All sock knitters (and sock knitter wannabes) are welcome, Fridays at  3:00 .  Make friends who
share your interest, learn from the knowledge of the hive.  Are you a toe-up person or a top-down person? Heel flap or short row? What's your favorite sock yarn?  This is not a class, just a casual get together of people who share your passion. No fee!

So Simple is a scarf/shawlette knit on the bias in sock weight yarn with size 4 needles.  Use 5 different colors in mini skeins and a main color that pulls all the other colors together for  a really beautiful effect.  Tuesday June 5th at 2 pm, or Saturday, June 16th at 2 pm.  Class is free with purchase of yarn.

Needle Felting Camp - Drop in Thursdays in June at  3:00  for Needle Felting Camp.  This is suitable for ages 12 and up (with parental consent).  Each week we'll make a different flower with either a magnet back for the refrigerator or a pin back for jewelry.  No experience is required, but please note we will be working with very sharp needles.  Class size is limited to 6, so registration is a good idea. Call 986-3832 to reserve your spot. Class fee is $20 per week, with includes all materials and instruction.

Spinning Day is  June 9, 2:00  - ?.  Bring your wheel or spindle and maybe a refreshment
to share.  Not a spinner? That's okay too! Our group includes non-knitters and non-spinners.  Want to learn to spin yarn? Call ahead to 986-3832 to schedule private instruction with Jessica, at $20 for a great lesson. And, when Jessica is in the house, Jessica's Creations are 20% off.  Be sure to check out her wool braids and batts for spinning, hand dyed yarns and award-winning handspuns at great savings.

Gnomes are fun to knit and a great way to add whimsy and charm to your home.  They can be package toppers, or tree ornaments, or hang from your car mirror.  Make them for all your friends using leftover DK  or worsted weight yarn you've been accumulating for years.  This is a great magic loop project, but can be done on DPNs if you prefer.  Size 3 needles for Dk yarn or size 5 needles for worsted weight yarn  Class fee is $20.  Tuesday, June 12th at 3 pm or Saturday, June 30th at 3 pm.

Knit knockers every first and third Tuesday, this month June 5th and 19th.  Any Tuesday afternoon you will probably find other knocker knitters sitting around our big table.  If you need help getting started on your first pair,  just let us know.  The methods of choice are DPNs, magic loop, or crochet.   Size 4 or 5 knitting needles are used, or size F or G crochet hook.  You pay $10 for the yarn to make your first pair, and after that the yar n is provided for you, thanks to a grant received from Baptist Hospital.
