As I write this on a crisp and foggy morning, the chill in the air gets me thinking of building comfort. We all feather our nests uniquely, creating the warm and safe haven from the stresses of the day. Mine includes a couple of favorite afghans and food my mother made for me. As I prepare to venture out today I will take with me bits of that comfort, to sustain me through the day. It might be my special socks that make me happy each time I look at my feet, that luxurious scarf from my sister, a hat that suits my personality, or a cookie - Mother Beck's Better Batter Butter Bits, a simple, soft butter cookie that warms my heart. When you share your gifts with the children and grands you are equipping them with the comfort memories that will last a lifetime.
Mother Beck's Better Batter Butter Bits
Preheat oven to 375
1 c. butter (softened at room temperature)
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 1/2 t. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cream of tartar.
Sift together dry ingredients 3 times (this is important). Cream butter & sugar, mix in the egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonful onto cookie sheet and bake for 7 -8 minutes.
(This also works well in a cookie press.)
Pins and Needles Retreat, January 29 - 31, 2016 at the Boone Tavern!
Make plans now to attend. We have taken your comments to heart and are changing things up just a little bit. We'll kick off the retreat with a group luncheon in the Boone Tavern dining room. This is optional and will give us a chance to get acquainted before the workshops begin. Frederikka is bringing a fantastic fashion show, featuring beautiful projects from Aurora Yarns. Another bonus is a trunk show of the most amazing shawl pins ever, from
Bonnie Bishoff. We have scaled back the technical skills required for the quilting classes and tested the projects to select ones that can be completed in the time allotted. You know we'll have some evening surprises and that it is a perfect get away. Register on our website:
