Autumn is in the air - almost. Cool mornings are hinting of brisk days ahead and leaves are beginning to show the reds and yellows we love. Its time to stow the sandals and short sleeves, get out the needles and start a new something to keep your neck and feet warm. Trade the summer pastels for earthy tones and deep jewels. Snuggle in with a good book and a hot cider.
Here's a sweet little neck ornament. The pattern is based on the organic design of a sea shell, Porphylla. Requiring only 50 grams of DK yarn it is an economical new addition to your Fall wardrobe. Use a buttery alpaca yarn, try the new camel or yak blends, They all will feel great and look beautiful too. The Porphylla class will meet on October 6 at 2:00 p.m. Bring a 16", size 5-6 needle. The class is free with purchase of yarn.
Speaking of Autumn Leaves, we are offering a great needle felting class through Berea Tourism on
October 7. This is a fun workshop to create a large trivet. The leaf image is "painted" onto the base felt by applying colors with felting needles.

The ABABA scarf is a perfect Christmas gift for all your friends and family. The pattern is very easy - only two rows are repeated. It gives a reversible scarf which can be done in yarn of any weight, but is especially beautiful using a self striping yarn such as Mini Mochi. This is a very enjoyable knit that can be as short or as long as you desire. Use needles appropriate for the yarn chosen, but if using Mini Mochi or another sock weight yarn, size 3 or 4 needles work well. The class is free with purchase of yarn. Monday, October 9th, 2 to 3 pm. Repeated again on Tuesday, October 24th, 2 to 3 pm.
th Zimmerman's Surprise Jacket is a classic to knit. Designed originally in baby sizes, the pattern now is adapted for all sizes, and different weights of yarn, with many variations. Knitted in one piece with strategic increases and decreases, the surprise is how it folds to become a perfectly proportioned jacket. Elizabeth herself recommended making a small sample first, to understand how it works, before taking on a larger size. We've made the small sample using 2 balls of Liberty Wool Light. Cast on with Joan on October 12, and continue on the 26th and November 9th. The class is free with purchase of pattern ($12) and yarn.
some more needle felting and create items for your fall centerpiece. We'll make three dimensional pumpkins on October 13 and again on the 27th. The class fee of $30 includes all instruction, tools and materials.
Here's another pumpkin for your table - this one is crocheted and works up in a jiffy. Bring your size G or H hook and join Jessica for this crocheted pumpkin class
October 14 at 11:00. Class fee is $20, plus the cost of yarn (several to choose from)
Lehigh is an intriguing knitted scarf that will pique your interest and hold it until the end. This two-color scarf
is knit in garter stitch from the triangle point, with increases worked each side on every row up to the top edge. With a crochet hook you will make buds at established intervals in the garter ridges. Using a multicolor yarn for the buds and a solid color yarn for the background results in a beautiful garment. Class fee of $25 includes the pattern, but does not include the yarn or size 6 needles. Saturday, October 21st, 2 to 4 pm. Repeated again on Saturday, November 4th,
1 to 3 pm.

Bring your wheel or spindle (or knitting or crocheting or stitching of any sort) and join us for good fun, a bit of learning (maybe) and pot luck. Honestly, these sessions are where I learn the most about spinning, just by sharing with others who have been doing it much longer than I. Someone might have a new fiber blend, or a different drafting technique or a great idea for what to do with that handspun. Don't spin? You'll understand your yarn better just by hanging around people who do. All are welcome,
3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Christmas will be here before you know it. Now is the time to cast on those socks, mitts and hats for December gifting. Stop in and let Judy or Joan help you find all the supplies you need for your gift knitting.
Registrations are coming in for Pins & Needles 2018! We have a well-rounded lineup in store for you this time. Your registration fee covers all instruction, breakfasts/breaks, and a bunch of fun. In the sewing category we have two great project series. One will give you an opportunity to learn quilt-as-you-go techniques. In this project, the seaming and quilting are done in one step, stitching the pieced top, batting and backing together at the same time. Add a binding and your project is complete in less than a day. If you are a beginning quilter or wannabe, this is the series for you. The other project is a great sweatshirt makeover. No precision cutting required, this is a fun, free form raw edge applique project that turns an oversized sweatshirt into a fashion statement.
