We're Hiring!
I'm looking for a book lover with multiple skills for a part-time position at Fiction Addiction. The ideal candidate:
- Reads voraciously, especially Southern fiction
- Is a people person, comfortable one-on-one or introducing an author in front of a crowd of 200
- Can make great book recommendations and successfully upsell at the register
- Is detail oriented
- Has great PC skills
- Is punctual, reliable, honest, and efficient
- Strives for continual improvement
- Can handle the interruptions, swiftly changing priorities, and multitasking required in a retail environment
- Is willing to work for our meager pay but with all the benefits of working for an independent bookseller (flexibility, small staff, responsibility, casual dress code, no corporate hierarchy, access to advance reader copies)
We've found that most employees need to work a minimum of 20-25 hours a week to stay up-to-date on our inventory, events, and changing procedures. Candidates can increase their hours up to full-time at peak seasons of the year.
To apply, fill out this application, and email it to info@fiction-addiction.com or bring it by the store.

The Lost City of the Monkey God The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston
Since the days of conquistador Hernán Cortés, rumors have circulated about a lost city of immense wealth hidden somewhere in the Honduran interior. Indigenous tribes speak of ancestors who fled there to escape the Spanish invaders, and they warn that anyone who enters this sacred city will fall ill and die. In 1940, journalist Theodore Mordre returned from the rainforest with hundreds of artifacts and an electrifying story of having found the Lost City of the Monkey God -- but then committed suicide without revealing its location. In 2012, bestselling author Douglas Preston climbed aboard a rickety, single-engine plane carrying lidar, a technology that could map the terrain under the densest rainforest canopy. That flight revealed the unmistakable image of a sprawling metropolis. Venturing into this wilderness to confirm the discovery, Preston and the team battle torrential rains, quickmud, disease-carrying insects, jaguars, and deadly snakes. But it wasn't until they returned that tragedy struck: Preston and others found they had contracted in the ruins a horrifying, sometimes lethal -- and incurable -- disease.

Mystery, Thriller, & Suspense
A Is for Arsenic A Is for Arsenic: The Poisons of Agatha Christie by Kathryn Harkup
Agatha Christie's choice of deadly substances to kill off unfortunate victims in her books was far from random -- the characteristics of each often provide vital clues to the discovery of the murderer. How is it that some compounds prove so deadly, and in such tiny amounts? Christie's extensive chemical knowledge provides the backdrop for A Is for Arsenic, in which Kathryn Harkup investigates the poisons used by the murderer in fourteen classic Agatha Christie mysteries. It looks at why certain chemicals kill, how they interact with the body, the cases that may have inspired Christie, and the feasibility of obtaining, administering, and detecting these poisons, both at the time the novel was written and today.

So when a local boy turns up dead and another child is abducted, Mulder can't stop himself from getting involved. Could there be a link to his sister's case? As he uncovers the truth, Mulder and his friends find themselves on the trail of a serial killer.
