Los Angeles, September 1, 2021 – The 13th Annual “Get Your Licks on Route 66”® cross country pet adoption tour will kick off in Los Angeles on Saturday, Sept. 4 with LA Animal Services offering special adoption fees this weekend for dogs ($51) and puppies ($75), which does not include the $20 license fee. Adoption fees for cats and kittens will be waived thanks to a generous donation by the ASPCA. Our six LA Animal Services Centers are open without appointments every Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 5pm.
Meet your new furry friend and be a part of the “Get Your Licks on Route 66” event happening on Saturday, Sept. 4 at the East Valley Animal Services Center, located at 14409 Vanowen Street in Van Nuys, CA. Spin the giant wheel filled with prizes provided by the tour sponsors where a donation gives you a chance to win fabulous prizes, with all proceeds going to the shelter at the end of the day.

“LA Animal Services is thrilled to be the first stop to kick off the Get Your Licks on Route 66 tour,” said Dana Brown, General Manager for LA Animal Services. “We are grateful to be working with partners who provide us with additional opportunities, like this event, to showcase our shelter pets and help them to find their new homes.”

The “Get Your Licks on Route 66” tour will include stops in animal shelters in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois and Nebraska, and conclude on Oct. 9 in Chicago. Since its inception 12 years ago, the cross country pet adoption tour has helped place more than 14,000 pets with new families!

“We are so excited about this year’s tour,” said founder Susan Sims, Publisher of FIDO Friendly Magazine. “After all that we have been through during Covid-19, this tour is going to be special. We can’t wait to help participating animal shelters find forever homes for their homeless pets and through our prize wheel, raise money for the individual shelters.”

The 2021 “Get Your Licks on Route 66” tour is made possible thanks to the following sponsors: Aberdeen, South Dakota-based My Place Hotels of America, hotel group, who will accommodate all event staff, pets and tour equipment during the vigorous annual cross country adoption charity event. Advocate Sponsor Sure Petcare and HomeAgain, leading manufacturers of pet technology products; who will also be providing PR services for the tour; Embrace Pet Insurance; and Tito’s Vodka for Dog People. About Get Your Licks on Route 66®
Founded 13 years ago by Susan Sims, Publisher of FIDO Friendly Magazine, as a way to make adoption events fun. “So many times, an animal shelter is a sad place to be, knowing that many pets are there due to no fault of their own,” said Sims. “We bring our sponsor supported spinning wheel where with a donation, adoption event attendees can spin and win fabulous prizes with all proceeds benefiting the shelter of the day.”
