This year marks a personal milestone for me: 40 years in the AEC industry, the last 35 of them at Steele Foundation, a company my father co-founded in 1968. Four decades in this business teaches you that projects come and go, but the partnerships that hold up over time are the ones built on respect, integrity, and showing up when it matters. That's the idea behind Field Notes. We wanted a way to share what we're seeing on the ground, celebrate the people and partners who make our projects work, and keep you connected to what's happening at Steele, quarter by quarter.
We're glad you're here for the first issue. There's a lot in it, and more to come.

Congratulations to Brad Nicholas on his promotion to Division President of PulteGroup’s Mid-Atlantic Division. With PulteGroup for nearly 14 years, Brad has built a reputation for operational excellence, collaboration, and developing strong teams – all of which we’ve been fortunate to see firsthand. Stepping into his former role as Vice President of Construction Operations is Matthew Krawczyk, continuing a well-earned leadership transition that reflects the depth and experience of the Pulte team.
Most recently, we partnered with Pulte on the MetroWest Quads, now MetroWest Square, project – our third collaboration at MetroWest and another strong chapter in the partnership we’re proud of.
Congratulations again to Brad and Matthew on these well-deserved milestones.

DC's DOB Just Got More Power.
That's a Good Thing.
DC just handed its Department of Buildings direct authority over construction code revisions. The issue at the center of it all—adjacent construction and party wall protections—affects nearly every project in our network. Andy breaks down what's changing, why it's good news for owners and contractors alike, and what to watch for this fall, when suggested changes are introduced.

After nearly six decades in business, we felt it was time for our brand to catch up with who we are today and where we're headed next.
We're proud to introduce Steele Foundation's refreshed visual identity, including a new logo and company seal, and an updated website and Capabilities Statement. It's a look that honors our history since 1968 while reflecting the partner we aim to be for the projects ahead. With over 1,800 projects, we're still large enough to take on the toughest engineering challenges, and agile enough to deliver true partnership.

Big news! Steele has signed a lease for our new headquarters in McLean, Virginia! We’ll be making the move later this fall, with more details on exact timing to come.
We’re moving to:
7927 Jones Branch Drive, Suite 2150
McLean, VA 22102
A new office is more than a change of address. For us, it’s a chance to create a space that reflects where we are today and where we’re headed next. Stay tuned for more!
