We are currently planning our Spring 2018 mailing dates, and need to hear from you by February 9th! Otherwise we will not be mailing to your city this Spring.

Celebration of Preservation

Final Call for Entries

Due February 16, 2018

Help us celebrate this past year's amazing preservation projects by nominating a project to receive recognition at the 2018 Celebration of Preservation. The Cleveland Restoration Society and AIA Cleveland's annual preservation awards program recognizes individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate excellence and outstanding commitment to historic preservation .

Nominations are due Friday, February 16th, 2018 by 5:00 p.m.

Awards will be determined by a jury of architects, contractors, and others involved in historic preservation and announced during the Celebration of Preservation in May 2018. Click here for details on nominating a project .

Do's and Don'ts of Salting

DON'T use common rock salt (sodium chloride) or products containing calcium chloride as they will destroy masonry.

DON'T use fertilizers sometimes sold as de-icing or traction agents; chemicals from them will degrade concrete.

DON'T allow residue of de-icing product to accumulate.

DON'T put any de-icing product whatsoever on concrete less than six months old.

DO use magnesium chloride based melting agents; they are the least damaging to masonry, vegetation, and the environment.

DO use sand to help provide better traction on icy areas.

DO shovel as much snow and ice away as possible before applying a de-icing agent; apply it sparingly and in areas with only the most foot traffic.

DO as ice melts, shovel it away along with the residue of melting agents.

New Service Offering

Homeowner Representative Services

In 2018, the Heritage Home Program will begin offering escrow services for homeowners wishing to self-finance their projects. This new offering will provide homeowners with strong contractual protections and technical assistance from program staff throughout the duration of their home repair projects.

Homeowners from an array cities and circumstances have requested the use of HHP's legal protections and services without the Heritage loan. We look forward to being able to assist homeowners through this new service offering!
