Tips and Tricks: Maintaining Your Home
Home maintenance can be a daunting task, but with some planning ahead it can be an easy part of your month or year.

A good place to start on a home maintenance project, is to gather information about your home - what type of roofing, siding, widows, etc. do you have? When was the furnace or fireplace checked or inspected? Is there any visible damage from a storm or other weather events? Has there been evidence of water intrusion inside the home - in the attic, by doors and windows, or in the basement?
Having a checklist on hand helps to keep everything you are inspecting or looking over on track. You can find home maintenance checklists online from a variety of sources. The Heritage Home Program has one such Checklist available for download in our Preservation Toolbox. It covers items to look over for your exterior. Good times to check the exterior of your home are in the spring and fall!
Check out the Heritage Home Program's Maintaining Your Home's Exterior presentation online for more tips and tricks on home maintenance projects.
Our Preservation Toolbox is also filled with information on home repair and maintenance!
