Are you missing a water bottle or coat? Please be sure to look for it before the next donation day, 2/3/2023! Lost and Found has been moved to the main hall for more visibility, so please try to obtain lost items today!

Saturday, February 4 - 3rd Grade Winter Social

 

3rd Grade Parents: Please mark your calendars for the winter 3rd grade social on Saturday, February 4th.


Time: 10am-12pm

Location: John Howell Park in the Virginia Highlands (across from the school).


Aly Nussear (former MES PE teacher and coach of the MES triathlon group) will host her awesome FunFit program on the field adjacent to the playground from 10:30-11:30am for the kids to enjoy during the social. We are limiting FunFit games to just the 3rd graders at the social but of course siblings welcome at the playground/park!


I will coordinate a small Venmo/cash fee at the park to cover the FunFit session for any child that wants to participate ($5-10).


We hope to see you then!

Saturday, February 4 - Cookies & Cocoa Kindergarten Playdate

 

Kinder families, please join us for a Valentines-themed playdate! We will be screening Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown and serving cookies and popcorn.


Time: 1-2:30pm, Saturday, February 4th

Place: Haygood Memorial Church Fellowship Hall


You're welcome to bring anything to make sitting on the floor more cozy or comfortable for yourself and your kinder (picnic blanket, yoga mat, flat pillow). Siblings are also welcome. Enter through the Ecker Fellowship Hall entrance of Haygood Memorial Church.

Friday, February 10 - SWAG Campus Clean Up


Come help keep MES at Inman beautiful by joining us for the next SWAG Campus Clean Up Day on Friday, February 10th! Volunteers will meet at the walker pad after school beginning at 2:45pm. Gloves, garbage bags, and snacks will be provided for everyone. In the event of rain, a make up date will be planned.

Tuesday, February 14 - Student Council Hat Day

 

The MES Student Council will be sponsoring Hat Day on February 14th! Wear your favorite headgear to show off your HATitude. Because this is a fundraiser for the Student Council, there will be a suggested $1 dollar donation fee to participate.


Wednesday, February 15 & 16 - MES Family Science Night!


MES Family Science Night is back in person this year, kicking off each night with a Spectacular Science Showcase in the MES@Inman auditorium!


Grades K-2: Tuesday, Feb 15th, 2020, 6-8 PM, MES

Grades 3-5: Thursday, Feb 16th, 2020, 6-8 PM, MES

Volunteers are a key part of ensuring this event runs smoothly and is a wonderful experience. Please consider signing up for volunteer opportunities for one or both nights! Reach out to the FSN Committee for any questions.

Saturday, February 18 - 2nd grade Social - Ultimate Frisbee Playdate

 

Ilsa's big brother Salter is a Senior at Midtown High School and Captain of the Ultimate Frisbee team that won STATE last year. Salter started Ultimate Good to share his love of the game with others. He and his teammates will be on hand to give the MES second graders some pointers. Come to play frisbee or play with your friends on the playground.


All are welcome!

MES News and Reminders

Now Accepting Submissions For MES Waves - Create Your Own Path


Do you have a passion for short stories or poetry? Do you love to draw, paint, or create mixed media masterpieces?  


We’d love to see what you’ve got! Please submit your original artwork or written piece to the bin in the front office, with attached submission form, or online no later than Friday, March 24, 2023.


All Art submissions will be displayed at the Showcase on 4/23 and in the MES hall 4/25-4/29 and all written work will be offered as part of the program on 4/23.


We'd like to give a big thank you to everyone who submitted a logo for WAVES! Our committee is going through them and will announce the winner(s) soon!


CALLING ALL FIFTH GRADERS

We are still looking for a group of fifth-grade volunteers interested in helping us run the Art Showcase with jobs ranging from being an MC to helping run the sound booth. If this sounds like something your child would be interested in, please fill out this FORM, and we will reach out ASAP.


Tours of East Rock Springs Building


We are beginning our tour season of our East Rock Springs home building! For each date offered, tours will be held at 8:30 and 10:00 for groups of 20 for each time slot. Tours will begin at the front entrance on Dolphin Drive. Please note that parking is limited! Signups for tours can be found HERE.

Morning Drop Off

 

Please adhere to our 7:15 am drop off time! If students are car riders, please have them remain in the car until 7:15 am when the front doors open. If students are walkers, please do not leave them unattended prior to 7:15 am in front of the school. Thanks for your help!!

Every Friday, we hold a raffle to celebrate two of our amazing students for upholding the school code of conduct. Your donations help motivate our learners to Go B.L.U.E! (Be respectful, Listen and Learn, Use self-control, and Embrace diversity). Our wish-list is HERE if you'd like to contribute.

Absence notes should be emailed as an attachment directly to [email protected] within three (3) days of the absence! Parents, please make sure that this step is taken in order for the front office to properly code a student absence!

Saturday, March 18 - MES Night Out with Atlanta United Fundraiser


Please join us for a fundraiser and a night out with our MES community as the Atlanta United take on the Portland Timbers on Saturday, March 18th at 7:30pm.


We will have a block of discounted tickets ($42 each) in section 223 of the Mercedes Benz stadium for the game. A portion of tickets sales will support the MES PTA. Information about how to purchase tickets through the MES Square site will be coming soon.


Additionally, 50 kids, who attend MES, will be eligible to participate in an on-field experience (penalty kicks) after the game.

Rising 6th Graders (2023-2024)


Straight from this week's Rams Report, the weekly newsletter for David T. Howard Middle School, we have a few dates to be aware for the soon-to-be Rising 6th Graders:

  • March 21st - Rising Rams Family Night with Tours


Please note that more information will be shared directly with our current 5th grade families via the school counselors, including the specific dates for the student visits to Howard in February.

APS Board of Education Monthly Meeting - Monday, February 6th


The next monthly APS Board of Education meeting will take place on Monday, February 6th from 2:30-8:00pm. All meetings are held at the Atlanta Public Schools Center for Learning and Leadership Auditorium and are typically livestreamed via the APS Board of Education Facebook Page. Interested parties are welcome to provide comments during the Community Meeting portion (which begins at 6:00pm) by signing up in person from 5:00-5:50pm.

New Virginia-Highland Elementary School Happenings

Transportation Town Hall Meeting - February 9th


Please join Mr. John Franklin, Executive Director of Transportation for Atlanta Public Schools, as he answers your questions about bus routes, bus stops, walk zones, and more. The meeting wiil begin promptly at 6pm in the Inman Auditorium on Thursday, February 9th. Please enter through the Inman Auditorium entrance located on Virginia Ave and Park.

Pre-K at VaHi Elementary


It was recently announced that VaHi Elementary will have an onsite Pre-K program starting in the Fall of 2023! The Pre-K lottery application window is open now through March 12 at 11:59pm, with the lottery drawing to be held on March 27. Additional details about the program, including the program requirements can be found here.
