Dear Neighbor:

Construction related to the liquefaction project at our Field’s Point site has been moving along, and we wanted to take a moment to update you on a few things related to the project.

Much of the activity has been on-going in support of the installation of the liquefier on the site. This work has included pouring concrete for equipment, building foundations and utilizing cranes to set new equipment into place.

Our team continues to work closely with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in their on-going review of the construction occurring at the site. FERC continues to perform its virtual inspections via teleconference and video conference platforms, with supporting photos, real time video and related documents. For reports on the most recent FERC inspections, please click on the following links here and here. Please note these links take you to PDFs of the inspection reports, which you’ll need to click on to open.

As we head into the winter months, reliance on liquified natural gas will increase. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is a critical part of National Grid’s ability to provide safe and reliable natural gas to the region’s homes and businesses. On the coldest winter days, when demand is at its peak, LNG can provide up to 40% of the gas supply for National Grid’s customers in New England. Without a local LNG supply, there would not be enough gas to heat customer homes and businesses during these coldest days.

The manufacturing, storage, and transporting of LNG are closely regulated processes, with exceptional safety records. The existing LNG facility at Fields Point in Providence, Rhode Island, which stores and re-gasifies LNG, has operated safely and continuously for decades since its commission, without any incidents. Safety is paramount in everything we do, and that will continue as construction of the new liquefier continues.
We look forward to sharing more developments about the project in the months ahead. If you have any questions please contact us at [email protected] or on our hotline at 888.275.6326. We will respond to your inquiries within 48 hours.
