CHAIRMAN'S CORNER
Jeff Reed
Skyline Transportation, Inc.
Greetings and thank you for taking time to read the TTA Newsline.

In last month’s message, I expressed my hope that everyone was enduring the winter and looking forward to March and springtime weather. Little did I know that just a couple of days afterward, the southern United States would be hit with one of the worst snow and ice storms in recent memory. The storms had a large impact on the supply chain, our members’ businesses and homes, and especially our drivers. It’s good to see how much we help each other during these situations and It makes me proud to see just how skilled the men and women on the road are when able to successfully navigate tough conditions in a safe manner.

Despite the winter weather, I was able to interact with close to 20 different TTA member companies and individuals during the month of February and each one helped me address a wide array of items. Selling and buying equipment, financial and tax advice, discussing best practices, expanding supplier partnerships, working on association business, and even just catching up over lunch. What a benefit it is that we have so many resources among the members of TTA.

Even though I jinxed it last month in regards to the weather, it is 70 degrees and sunny as I’m writing this and that prompts me to look forward to getting back outside. Be on the lookout for information about upcoming TTA events, meetings and of course the annual golf outings. The Middle and East TN outings will be here before you know so I encourage you to sign up now and help support the many great charities.

Until next time, be safe and stay well!

LEGISLATIVE CORNER
Dale Allen, Adams and Reese, LLP
Clayton Byrd, Adams and Reese, LLP
In February, the 50th Governor of Tennessee, Bill Lee (R-Franklin), delivered his third State of the State address in the War Memorial Auditorium, with the members of the 112th General Assembly, Lee’s cabinet, state officials, and other dignitaries in attendance. Typically, the annual speech is given in the House Chambers, but due to the pandemic, the venue changed to allow for proper social distancing. Those in attendance sat in chairs on the floor, six-feet apart making for a unique setting in an otherwise unprecedented year. The Governor’s remarks focused on Lee’s $41.8 billion dollar budget and the administration’s legislative priorities, while also bolstering Tennessee’s unique response to the COVID-19 pandemic and plans for economic recovery.
