May Celebrations
Our May celebrations of Mary once again reflect the times as we ask for Our Lady's help and intercession. Pope Francis invites Catholics and Marian Shrines around the world to dedicate the month of May to "a marathon of prayer for an end to the Covid-19 pandemic." Read about the daily broadcasts of the praying of the rosary from Marian shrines around the world in May. Pope Francis leads the first and last rosaries.
On Saturday, May 1 we celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. "The life of St Joseph shows us the dignity of human work, which is the duty and the perfection of human beings, who in this way exercise dominion over creation, share in the work of the Creator, offer their service to the community, and participate in God’s plan of salvation." (Vatican News) May the Holy Spirit move us to help all those in need in need, especially those who are unemployed or without a living wage.

Registration Open for Angels in the Bible: A Summer Bible Study. This summer in June and July 2021, St. Matthew's hosts a 6-session Bible Study newly published by Little Rock Scripture Study, "Angels in the Bible." Register for either of two parishioner-led groups that will meet virtually once each week - one on Sunday afternoons, and one on Monday evenings.
Always God's Children Meeting. Always God's Children, the Cathedral's ministry to gay and lesbian persons and their families and friends, will host an online video chat using Zoom at 3:30pm on Sunday, May 9. To join this virtual gathering, email Eve Tushnet or Steve Yoder for details on how to connect.
A Week of New Music. Join us for a very special Nathan Laube Week at St. Matthew’s, May 17 – 21. Every morning at 6am we will post on the Cathedral YouTube account a new video of a virtuosic organ piece by Nathan Laube, our 2019 Great Organ Dedicatory Recitalist, recorded on the Cathedral Great Organ earlier this spring. The recordings are impeccably engineered and edited for an optimum virtual recital experience. Don’t miss it! Check the listing of works and composers you will hear and plan to listen and enjoy.
Wednesday Afternoon Recital. On May, 26, join us in the Cathedral when Rebecca Yoder appears for a midday concert on the Great Organ following the 12:10pm Mass. Mark your calendars for the 12:40pm performance; enjoy it live and in person or livestreamed on YouTube (link to follow).
