May, A Month dedicated to Mary Mother of Jesus and Mothers of the Church

May is one of the months traditionally dedicated to the honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. During this month we will have our Novena of Masses for our mothers, living and deceased, starting on May 14, Mother’s Day. Please send in your names to the office, [email protected] this week. On Mother’s Day weekend we will have a May Crowning at the 9:30am Mass at Assumption and the 11:15am at St. Boniface.

First Saturday Mass

First Saturday Mass will take place on May 6th at 9am at Assumption.

Youth Confirmation

On Saturday, May 6, at the 5pm Mass, we will be joined by the Most Rev. Neil Tiedemann, Episcopal Vicar of Brooklyn to confer the sacrament of Confirmation on 30 young people from Assumption, St Boniface and St. Charles Boromeo.

Coffee Hour at St. Boniface

Coffee Hour will take place on Sunday, May 7 following the 11:15am Mass.

Nominations for St. Boniface PPC Members At Large

St Boniface Parish Pastoral Council is seeking a diversity of candidates to run for members at large. Please consider if you would like to nominate someone or yourself for this two year position. The term begins in September. Members at large are expected to attend the monthly meeting (primarily by Zoom) of the joint St. Boniface and Assumption PPCs and to assume leadership responsibility with new or current initiatives of the PPC. We accept up to 6 nominations for the election of members at large each year. To nominate someone or yourself, please contact Connie Tempel at [email protected] by Tuesday, May 16.

For the candidates who will run, we need a one paragraph bio about yourself and a headshot photo that will be posted with the election information. This year voting will be electronic to minimize printing and mailing work for the office staff. However, if you prefer, you can contact Carole Fabrizio in the office to vote.

Oratory Parishes Pickleball Open Play in ABVM Hall

Given the success of our first parish pickleball fundraiser/clinic, we are going to run trial Pickleball open play sessions on Thursday afternoons in the ABVM hall from 4pm to 6pm from May 4th through and including May 25th. The sessions will be facilitated by Jason Manske, please email him if interested: [email protected].

It is important that everyone wears tennis / pickleball or other court shoes to play so as to preserve both the hall floor and your bodies. Ankle sprains are common with those playing in shoes that do not provide lateral support such as running shoes. Also please bring your own personal water bottles.

Save the Date

We know you can't believe it, but our very own Gertrude Conway turns 100 this month! On Saturday, May 20, we, her parish family, will celebrate the 5:00pm Mass in her honor at ABVM, with a special Coffee Hour to follow in the parish hall. All are welcome! Please come join and celebrate our dedicated friend.

Messages and Photos from Turkana!

Father Edwin, pastor of our Sister Parish, has sent messages to us in response to our Easter and 50th Anniversary messages to the St. Mark’s Parish community in Turkana, Kenya.

Amen and Amen. I will greatly extend these warm greetings from the Oratory Church of St. Boniface our dear Sister Parish exactly on 23rd April 2023 this forthcoming third Sunday of Easter. We really feel much loved and ask our beloved risen Lord to continue Blessing you in abundance.

There is a lot to thank God for. Imagine it is 21 years ago since you started to really journey with this parish. One can really tell what a blessing you have been and are to this parish. I came and I will go and another pastor will come, but I am a great witness of how helpful you are to this parish. May the good Lord continue blessing you too our dear Oratory Church of St. Boniface.

You can imagine during the last period of 1 year and 2 months since I have been here how much we have achieved because of the quarterly wires sent to us. One is confident to the extent that he even begins rectory renovations because of hoping in our Sister Parish, changes in the church, getting at least two more brothers to live in community with us based on our religious constitution. Some annual programs are also very well fulfilled because of your love for us. Thank you so much! We are humbled.

The anniversary celebration and feast day went well. May you receive a share of the indulgences we received on this feast. May the good Lord continue blessing you. Please extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who really consider this desert place in their hearts.

Peace and all that is good!

Fr Edwin Tumuhaise FMH
