English Figaro Wiring Diagram Handbook

As many of you know, our beloved cars are classified as Grey Imports, which means that all documentation was originally published in Japanese—a challenge that can feel like deciphering hieroglyphics when you’re trying to get your hands on some vital information!

For those lucky enough to possess one of the many manuals and handbooks, you might have spent countless hours wrestling with translations, even with the help of modern smartphone software!

THANK YOU

Today, we want to shine a well-deserved spotlight on our dedicated member, known by the forum username fk10, along with other tireless contributors who have been burning the midnight oil to translate the Wiring Diagram Handbook. Their commitment to this project is nothing short of heroic, especially when you consider the quirks of translation—like the "Hazard Switch" being referred to as a "4-Way Switch"! The results of their hard work are simply astounding and incredibly useful for anyone looking to diagnose faults or rewire parts of their car.

So let’s raise a toast to fk10 and all our contributors, and let this be a rallying call for every member to join in these ongoing efforts. Remember, we’re all in this together, and the supportive network of the Figaro Owners Club is here to help you every step of the way! Read more Forum login required.

Top Boot Lift Tag

One of the issues owners have when raising/closing the roof or accessing the top boot is trying to lift the lid.

Drive Shaft / Axle Left & Right Rebuilt

The Nissan Figaro’s automatic gearbox transmits its power through the driveshafts to the wheel hubs. Over time and due to wear and tear, the drive shafts can corrode, joints can break down and start making noises, boots can split due to dry rot/impact with road debris, vibrations can occur from worn inner joints and in the worst of cases, the axles can snap due to excessive corrosion causing the loss of drive to the hubs and therefor the wheels.

At The Figaro Shop, they have a large inventory of well-used axles/driveshafts. They have taken a limited number of these shafts, stripped them down to bear metal, cleaned and painted the shafts with a protective paint, cleaned, inspected and re-packed the inner joints with new C.V grease including a new CV Boot, replaced the outer joint with a brand new one, new grease and a new boot and assembled the axles, both left and right, ready for dispatch. These axles/driveshafts are as good as new ones and directly replace the originals. Read more

Club Virage Beccles Aerodrome - Sunday 8th September 2024

Words and Pictures by Chapter Coordinator Adam Woods

The great thing about “Figgy’s and Chat” is that it’s just a meet-up somewhere interesting or different and a chat. It’s worked so well this year because members value the time to share stories and challenges. Of course, as challenges go, meeting other Figgy Folk is always a privilege

New folk we hadn’t met until that day, or those we have laughed with many times before, the one thing that binds us all is that there are always new things to learn whether you have owned the car for 2 months or 12 years!"

"What’s also really lovely is to see how members make the cars their own with an assortment of toys and a monkey who kept popping up here and there! We were also very lucky to see Martin’s craftsmanship having made a beautiful luggage rack and now his very own strut brace. Things of real beauty."

Congrats and it's up, up and away.

Other joys to share… Keith and Kay had gotten married since we last saw them – massive congrats!! And we were all a bit stunned when Steve and Christine blagged themselves a plane ride!!

In other news, sadly, some members’ cars couldn’t make it! Some say this may have been due to the cars being unavoidably detained against their will … while others might say they were having an extended holiday away while getting some surgery! But all we know for sure was that those owners came along anyway, Figless, but enjoying the chit-chat and Figgy vibe! In fact, JJ seemed to be particularly pleased driving a pink Fiat 500 substitute car! Read more

Figgys and Chat – Skylark at Prettyfields Vineyard -Sunday 29th September 2024

Words and Pictures by Chapter Coordinator Adam Woods

Vineyards have grown in number in the UK in the last few years, with the warmer temperatures making for better conditions, especially in the South.

Whenever we plan any event we often have a few places we are thinking about as the location and will reach out and get a sense of how good a venue might be to visit and how keen the venue themselves might be

YThis year’s Essex event had been brewing for some time. We had a very keen craft centre involved and were originally ready to announce this event at the start of August, but the venue ran into an issue. When it became clear they wouldn’t resolve it in time we turned to one of our alternatives and only took the event live a few weeks ago, making the turnout really fantastic!

Skylark is a lovely cafe and shop with a sustainable ethos, right next to Prettyfields Vineyard in Essex, founded in 2022.

"We were able to arrange exclusive Figgy parking with the Vineyard as the backdrop and in the end had 12 Figs join us for a relaxing afternoon of chit-chat and catching up."

It’s always a pleasure to meet Figgy Folk we have met before, alongside new friends and new owners – of particular note mother and daughter Sue and Victoria who first saw a Fig at CarFest this year and must surely hold the record between first seeing one and buying one just weeks later!!

The weather held and while it was a little nippy, the setting was great, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves among the vines.

We hope you enjoy the images and video we put together of the day!

The Dutch Sixth Figaro After Summer Tour Sunday 29th September 2024

Words and Pictures Chapter Coordinator Pascal & Joyce Snell

For the 2024 edition of the Figaro After Summer Tour we went back to the traditional last Sunday of September.

We chose the very central part of the Netherlands, the province of Utrecht! The National Park, Utrechtse Heuvelrug, gave us so many nice roads that fit our Figgy’s well.

We started the day in Bistro/restaurant “Brocante “in Doorn with a good cup of coffee and pie and a small briefing with all the information for the day. As the insurance rules for days like this have been tightened, we had to think about other fun events during the day, and judging by all the smiles on the faces during the test, I think I may say we succeeded in that.

"We started with a small test for the navigator. We gave the navigator 2 balls and the different goals to hit, all with different points to score. Some of the navigators were hanging right out of the car window to get closer to the goals!"

Then the morning puzzle drive for 44 Miles started with a checkpoint halfway.

The beautiful roads over the Utrechtse Heuvelrug brought them back to Brocant for a magnificent lunch and a small quiz with questions about the area, Nissan, the Nissan Figaro and some well-known people, born in Utrecht. The most difficult question was; Why is the number 23 so special for Nissan? Do you know the Answer?

Just before the start of the second drive for another 37 miles, we had a small test for the driver, how well do they know their Figaro? Start driving and stop after exactly one wheel turn. Sounds easy, but trust us, not easy at all.

The day ended with a small drink and bite again at Bistro Brocante with prices for the three best all over:

  • 1st Martin & Whyneke, 2nd Ruud & Angelique and 3rd Jan & Ilona
  • The furthest travelled went to Johan & Maureen from Heist aan Zee, Belgium 146 miles
  • The best Figaro of the day was won by Martin & Dennis with their Pale Aqua in excellent condition.

We ended the day with a big ‘THANK YOU’ for Figarocars, being our sponsor and the technical support during the day, and Young Ho for designing our rally shield for all six years now!

As a small souvenir from our sponsor ‘Timp Bookshop’ for this lovely day, we gave all the teams a book from the world famous, born in Utrecht, Miffy.

Special about this book, it was all in Utrecht's Dialect. There was still a possibility to stay for dinner so all and all we had a very nice Figaro day and are looking forward to 2025! Read more

Figgys and Chat plus Afternoon Tea in the South Downs – Sunday 6th October 2024

Words and Pictures by Chapter Coordinator Adam Woods

Two things we particularly love about Figgy Ownership are getting to visit places that are really memorable and meeting such lovely people! There’s nothing better than bringing people together who have a shared love of all things Figgy!

Thanks to the Fig, we’ve visited so many wonderfully memorable places over the years, but nothing seems to beat the beauty of the British Countryside! So, for the first South East Chapter event we put on, the top of the list was to visit a beautiful landscape – finding somewhere with sweeping hills and lovely surroundings!

The South Downs seemed like a perfect place, and when we

discovered Tottington Manor nestled in the valley, and their Afternoon Teas, and once they had agreed to arrange some Figgy Parking, we knew we had found the right place for an afternoon of Figgyness.

We were all set for 8 cars driving in convoy, but sadly one member had a puncture and couldn’t attend, so 7 cars met at South Downs Nurseries where members had time to chat with old friends, and make new ones, sharing stories and looking at the cars. It was also lovely that a father and daughter came over to have a chat, as they had their eyes and hearts set on a Fig!

"What’s particularly lovely about visiting a place like this is that we see other places on the route that we didn’t know existed… so we can make plans to return and discover some more lovely places on another Figgy day out in the future!"

Around half an hour later we arrived at Tottington Manor for more chat and photos, and then headed in for what was a truly scrumptious Afternoon Tea on their Terrace complete with fire pits! The food was delicious, but what made it all – as always – was the chit-chat with fellow Owners, some of whom had owned their Fig for years, and some of whom were new to the Figgy World!

After a lovely afternoon, we headed our respective ways, parting company as friends, looking forward to the next time we would meet again. Read more

Coffee and Chat in Brecon Wales

Saturday 5th of October 2024

Words and Pictures: Chapter Coordinator Helen Hunter

Video: Kate Broadhurst

What a glorious day for a drive out with our Figgys. We had a great turnout – 10 cars and their owners ranging from one member who had their Figgy for 17 years to another, new member, who only had hers for 2 months. It was great to meet up with old friends and also meet new ones – some who had driven quite some distance to join us for Coffee and Chat at The Old Railway Line Garden Centre at Three Cocks near Brecon.

Those travelling across the bridge were Jak, Ian and their adorable pooches from Bath, Mark and Rachel from Bristol, whom Kate had met at Carfest. John and Sue

were familiar with the venue, having driven from Monmouth. Neil and Sue travelled from Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire – a fair trek – and newcomers, the youthful Charlotte and Phil, came from Morriston near Swansea.

It was great to meet them all including Tony who had driven up from Cardiff. Old friends who attended were Kate, Sienard and Rob, Catherine and her son, Paddy. Nice to know young people are interested in being part of the amazing Figaro Owners’ Club. For some members, it was their first experience of a meet-up.

The weather and scenery on the route were wonderful. We couldn’t have picked a better day or venue. All thanks to Kate – it was she who suggested The Old Railway Line and as she wasn’t available on Sunday 6th October, it had to be Saturday, 5th. She couldn’t possibly be left off the list as she’s such a great part of the Figgy family.

Our group virtually took over the tea rooms when 18 of us turned up but we managed to find space and, despite not all being able to sit together, we were able to chat and get to know more about other club members.

"The cars attracted quite a bit of attention in the car park where we’d all managed to park together and one family whose Figgy is off the road at present had driven to join us. She’s hoping to get her car roadworthy soon so she can attend a future drive-out."

It was decided that we’d drive back via Brecon town and give the visitors there a treat to see our cute cars driving in convoy. Kate did a great job of videoing us leaving the garden centre (see below). It was a pity that a couple of “normal cars” intercepted our convoy but this time there was no Pete or Dave to stop traffic (as they had done at Portmeirion last year).

At Brecon town was where most of us parted ways as we were driving east, west and south. Hopefully, we can encourage some Figgy owners from the north to join us in the future.

Ian and I thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially meeting lots of friends, old and new, that we hope to meet again soon. Read more

Grill Badge

How to fit a car badge to your grill

Words and Pictures: Kevin

Numerous car badges are available that owners may like to attach to their cars. This new page on shows you how to remove the Figaro grill, make any minor repairs (the neoprene seal around the edge usually needs reglueing), attach the badge, and reinstall the grill. Here, clung founder Kevin Fagan is adding an old UK AA Badge, which once belonged to his father-in-law, so it has much nostalgic value.

HOW TO REMOVE THE GRILL

  1. To access the grill you will first need to remove your number plate. This is usually attached by two M6 bolts so you will need a 10mm Spanner. There is no nut to remove, just unscrew the bolt and the number plate will come away.
  2. Remove the 6 Phillips screws which attach the grill to that car. There are two on the left, two in the middle, and two on the right.
  3. As you pull away the grill you will need to disconnect the two indicator lights. Both these are connected using a harness connector block. If you look closely you will see a clasp which if you press and pull the harness will separate.
  4. If you wish you can now remove the light assembled by rotating but this is not necessary.
  5. Now you can attach the badge, being careful that any bolts are not too long, reconnect the two lights, reinstall the grill, and reattach the number plate.

REPAIR & POLISH

Whilst the grill was off, I took the opportunity to repair the neoprene seal that runs around the edge using a contact adhesive. This detaches itself over the years through aging. I also cleaned and polished all the individual nipples using a toothbrush with metal polish. This is much easier to do whilst the grill is on a bench rather than kneeling and trying to do it whilst on the car.

Figgys and Chat at the Ace Cafe London Sunday 20th October 2024

Words: Adam Woods

Pictures: Adam Woods, Kevin Fagan, and Damien Jennings.

What a 15th year it has been for the club! We’ve had an amazing Devon Rally (we’ll say nothing of those pesky Wombles) followed by event after event the club has taken us to this year—from car shows to airfields, garden centres to vineyards, royal estates to charity fundraisers… and the one thing that shines through is the Figgy magic! It’s not just the cars—it’s the owners—often mad, often fun, and often keen to enjoy life and make lasting memories.

Holding an event in London is a difficult choice, as the impact of ULEZ has made owning a Figaro even more difficult. But getting people together and supporting Figaro Owners Club members who wanted to do something on their patch was a request we couldn’t refuse. And with the club having had such a long relationship with the iconic Ace Cafe, it was a great opportunity to support the Ace, too!

We wanted to do something different and something that we hoped members would enjoy—Halloween! We came up with some prize-winning categories, reached out to club supplier partners, and started letting people know.

Chatting to Mark Wilsmore, who brought Ace Cafe back all those years ago, we knew that members would love to hear him speak – so we asked and he agreed. Autolink, Classicline, and The Figaro Shop all agreed to sponsor the prize categories, with the founder of TFS, Tobyn agreeing to do a Q&A.

And so to the day itself – would everyone make it, and how readily would members jump on board with the Halloween theme? Like we needed to ask. Wow – the efforts Figgy Folk went to – the Ace Cafe saw Figs in a kaleidoscope of colours, and decorations to die for! With over 60 people in attendance, the event buzzed with Halloween fun!

THE WINNERS

And there were winners galore…

  • Anne for Furthest Travelled
  • Helen for Shortest Travelled
  • Janet for Longest Membership
  • Amy for Newest Member
  • Both Quirky/Fun Item and Spookiest Fig were also won by Helen, making it a well-deserved hat trick!

The group photos were brilliant, with Kevin taking an aerial photo, members beeping their horns in the biggest Beep Beep we have ever seen, and a brilliant group photo of everyone together at the very end!

And talking of Kevin, he and Sue were their usual generous, kind selves, and it was only right to thank them and celebrate 15 years of Figaro Owners Club with cake and cheers.

What an amazing, fun, and memorable way to celebrate Halloween and a fantastic year of events with the Figaro Owners Club!

How the club started
Back in 2008...
Our son Daniel had always wanted a Figaro having seen the car at his local garage when he was just 16. After saving for several years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad!) he, at last, brought an emerald green model in May 2008 and named it "Figgy".

Following the purchase, Sue and I searched the internet for a club in the hope we could attend events and meet other owners. We were amazed that at that time no club existed so we thought, well why not and on the 1st March 2009 the Figaro Owners Club was born!

"We decided to build a basic website and forum which took a few months and on the 1st March 2009, pressed the publish button and waited to see if anyone wanted to join. Within a week we had 10 members, a month 35 and a year 478!"

Today the club has around 1,200 members worldwide in countries including New Zealand, Japan, Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden and many more.
