Fighting Hepatitis B in Philadelphia with the
HBV PreVNTT Project

Hep B United Philadelphia (HBUP) has been featured in the fall issue of the Philadelphia County Medical Society's magazine! The article focuses on HBUP's efforts with partners to eliminate hepatitis B in the city. For the next three years, HBUP will continue to collaborate with the city of Philadelphia and key stakeholders to increase hepatitis B awareness, prevention, care navigation as well as stakeholder engagement.
About HBV PreVNTT: Earlier this year, Philadelphia Department of Public Health was awarded a grant to focus on a hepatitis B elimination project in Philadelphia. As project partners, Hep B United Philadelphia and the Hepatitis B Foundation will be working closely with the health department to implement increased screening, vaccination, and linkage to care in high-risk populations through the HBV PreVNTT project (Hepatitis B Virus Infection Prevention, Navigation, Testing, and Treatment.

NIH Maps Path to Hep B Cure with HBF's Input

The NIH has released their new strategic plan, which
features a detailed plan for a hepatitis B cure. With integral input from the Hepatitis B Foundation and other organizations, the NIH focuses on three areas for research: 1) a better understanding of the hepatitis B virus, 2) the development and sharing of tools to advance product development and, 3) the creation of strategies to cure hepatitis B.

New Hepatitis B Community Advisory Board Convenes
for the First Time

In November, HBUP and the Philadelphia Health Department held the first Philadelphia Hepatitis B Community Advisory
Board. The community advisory board is a part of HBV PreVNTT project efforts to eliminate hepatitis B in the city. Key stakeholders from academic, community, and medical backgrounds gathe
red to discuss the current state of hepatitis B in Philadelphia, and what actions needed to be taken towards
increased hepatitis B awareness, diagnostics and linkage to care. The community advisory board will meet quarterly to bring together resources and develop innovative approaches to address hepatitis B.

Community Research Day at Thomas Jefferson University

On December 9th, we attended the 10th annual Community Driven Research Day (CDRD), hosted by Thomas Jefferson University! CDRD is an opportunity for researchers and community organizations to meet and discuss potential collaborations for continuing or future projects.
HBUP presented research in partnership with the African Family Health Organization and HepTREC on hepatitis B and hepatitis C in the African Immigrant community.
