Greetings,

Despite Biden's campaign promises, we are witnessing an alarming pattern of detention expansion. "Work-around" contracts have allowed companies to extend the life of private detention facilities and the Biden administration is preparing to expand the use of e-incarceration by putting "as many as 350,000 people" under ICE's surveillance dragnet.

As we respond to these growing concerns and continue fighting for the liberation of our communities, we are grateful for your continued support. Please see below to learn about some of our recent advocacy effortsresourcesupcoming CLEs, and more.
Calling on Biden to Stop the Expansion of Surveillance
Earlier this week, Axios reported that the Biden administration is planning an expanded home confinement and curfew pilot program. To respond, the National Immigration Project and its partners issued a statement urging Biden to live up to his promises and move swiftly to phase out the use of immigration detention, not increase the number of people living under ICE's thumb.

Urging Biden Admin to End Private Detention
It has been over a year since the Biden administration passed its executive order on private prisons, and advocates have documented multiple instances in which the federal government has allowed for the creation of “work-around” or “pass-through” third-party contracts to extend the life of private detention facilities. This week, NIPNLG and its partners called for an investigation of the executive order's implementation and for the order to extend to ICE detention.
