Update: Novel Coronavirus
The situation related to  2019 Novel Coronavirus continues to evolve and was recently declared a global health emergency . Visit the Health Center's website for the most up-to-date information that has been sent to the campus community. Please call the Health Center with questions and concerns at 781-736-3677. Anyone needing additional support should utilize the Support at Brandeis website to locate the best resource for your concerns.

Protect yourself and your friends from the flu and other viral infections! As we enter peak cold and flu season, take action against getting sick with these simple tips:

  1. Get your flu shot: The best protection against the flu is a flu vaccine. It takes approximately two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body to protect against flu virus infection. Visit the Health Center's walk-in hours to get your flu shot!
  2. Maintain good hygiene: Wash your hands before eating, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and disinfect surfaces (phones, keyboards, etc).
  3. Eat a balanced diet: Stay hydrated and incorporate nutrient-dense and vitamin-rich foods into your diet to support a healthy immune system.
  4. Exercise regularly: Exercise helps reduce stress and promote disease-fighting white blood cell activity to fight the cold and flu.
  5. Get enough sleep: Try to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night to help the body fight infection by regulating the immune system.

Staying healthy is super important for a productive and successful semester! Implement these techniques into your daily routine to help your body fight against getting sick.

Key Aspects of a Healthy Relationship
Relationships are an important part of life. Here are some aspects to consider when thinking about a healthy relationship—whether it is a friendship or romantic relationship.

  1. Respect: Both people should be respectful to each other and respectful of the other’s time, needs, and privacy.
  2. Honesty: Being honest about your thoughts and feelings as well as what you want from the relationship can help clear things up for you and the other person.
  3. Trust: It’s extremely important to build trust in the relationship so that both people can feel comfortable and secure.
  4. Communication: Communication is key—it can help you to resolve conflicts as well as encourage and support each other.

Relationships are essential in all stages of life, and evaluating your own relationships can ensure that you are treating both yourself and the other person well. Everyone deserves to feel safe and valued!

If you or someone you know are concerned about a relationship, Brandeis has many resources, like the Prevention, Advocacy, & Resource Center, available. You are not alone we are here for you.

  1. Free condoms: FREE external/male condoms are available in the waiting room of the Health Center.
  2. Contraception: If you are sexually active but do not intend to get pregnant, the Health Center staff can prescribe birth control and help you to decide what method may work best for you.
  3. Emergency contraception: Emergency contraception can be taken to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse and can be taken up to five days after intercourse. Plan B and Ella One are available at the Health Center during walk-in hours.
  4. Routine screening and preventative care: The Health Center offers a variety of routine assessment and screening services.
  5. Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing: If you would like to be tested for an STI, call 781-736-3677 or visit your secure patient portal to make a confidential appointment.
