Dear Housing Providers of Pasadena,
This week, we want to offer our most sincere thanks. To those of you who commented on the Rent Board’s unfair conduct on Thursday night, and to those who made the generous donations which have allowed us to start our advertising in Pasadena against Prop 33, we appreciate what you’ve done to help defend the rights of housing providers.

On Thursday, the Rent Board planned to endorse Prop 33, which would remove all exemptions and protections from single family homes and new properties, and would also make it impossible for you to raise rents to normal market rates after a tenant leaves.
As we have said before, it’s completely wrong for an unelected body to endorse ballot measures, and the City Attorney agreed with us, recommending that the Rent Board should send any endorsement to the elected City Council instead.
Thanks to the support of local housing providers who attended the meeting, dialed in, or sent in public comment, we made a strong case that the Board should not make any kind political endorsement, even to the Council. Various Board members commented on our input, and in the end the extremists on the Board weren’t able to have their way. Another big win for us is the start of our campaign against Prop 33. Thanks to the generosity of those of you who joined us at our “No On 33” fundraiser on September 11th, we’ve started our media campaign with advertising in Pasadena Now. You’ll see our ad and our pop-up on the site this month in the run-up to the ballot. Keep an eye out for our other advertising during October!
