114 Organizations Demand Biden End Detention

This month, the National Immigration Project and its partners sent a letter to the Biden administration highlighting how the immigration detention system is unnecessary and rife with systemic abuses. The letter calls on the administration to close detention centers, prevent the development of new detention sites or expansion of existing ones, and cut funding for immigration detention from Congress.

Senate Hears Testimony About Medical Abuse at ICDC

On November 15th, the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations heard testimony on the medical abuse and mistreatment of women held at Irwin County Detention Center (ICDC). Panelists included Karina Cisneros Preciado, who was formerly detained at ICDC, as well as medical professionals and experts.

What Does Biden's Marijuana Pardon Mean for Immigrants?

President Biden’s recent marijuana pardon excluded non-citizens who have experienced the harms of detention and deportation because of a drug conviction. This panel conversation, hosted by our Immigrant Justice Network, featured our staff and a U.S. veteran who was deported due to a drug conviction talking about the need to extend the pardon to all immigrants.
