Valencia Film School, Orange County work to bring more film projects to Central Florida

Central Florida might try to get serious about the film industry once again, with the recent creation of the Orange County Film Incentive Workgroup. The group is made up of nine working professionals in the film industry. The goal is to attract mainly streaming projects at first, according to Roseann Harrington, chief of staff for Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings. The workgroup is creating a five-year plan to bring movie projects to Central Florida and seeks to use $22 million in Tourist Development Tax (TDT) funds to create tax incentives for those seeking to produce and shoot films in the area. Six other Florida counties have film incentive programs aimed at attracting high-wage film and television production opportunities. CLICK HERE to read more.

"Lost In The Everglades" in Broward County

Last month, Broward County became the backdrop for a new thriller 'Lost in The Everglades'. The project, which was attracted to Broward through the County's Screen Incentive Program, follows Indiana mom Beverly as she travels to South Florida in search of her missing daughter who goes missing while on Spring Break. Teaming up with a rugged boatman named Ray, the two embark through the vast and treacherous Everglades. Film Lauderdale is proud to support productions like 'Lost in The Everglades', which bring creative projects and economic opportunities to our community!

The Making of "Miami Magic"

Miami Film Lab, a nonprofit supporting local filmmakers as they work to make a living telling Miami stories, wrapped production on their first short film "Miami Magic." Shot in Miami-Dade County over two days the organization raised nearly $30,000 for the production with more than 75% of the budget going toward payments to South Florida cast & crew. The short will hit the film festival circuit in the spring of 2025. The Golf League, best known as TGL presented by SoFi, is set to revolutionize the game of golf with its highly anticipated inaugural season, launching January 7, 2025. Each match of this made-for-TV event takes place inside the custom-designed SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, combining the best of virtual and real-world golf. A partnership between Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports and the PGA TOUR, TGL will air 15 regular season matches primetime on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN+. The two-hour matches will unfold with three players from each six-member team competing while fans are immersed in a “greenside” experience similar to courtside at an NBA game. The SoFi Center’s 1,500-seat venue places fans close to the action, enhancing the immersive viewing experience with every shot seen live. Production crews have been in The Palm Beaches capturing beauty shots of the destination that’ll be featured during the live broadcasts, as well as additional promotional content for the web. Sarasota Orchestra: Inside the Sound

Curley & Pynn partnered with Oxenfree Film & Motion to create an animated explainer for its client Sarasota Orchestra, aimed at illustrating the difference between a concert hall and a multi-purpose performing arts hall. Sarasota Orchestra’s future Music Center (expected to open in 2029) will feature just the fourth concert hall in Florida and the first on Florida’s Gulf Coast. This video highlights how a purpose-built concert hall elevates sound beyond what’s possible in traditional multi-purpose performing arts halls, using the science of acoustics to show why this new venue would elevate Sarasota Orchestra to even greater artistic heights. The explainer illustrated the science of sound so effectively that a professor at Yale uses it in his lectures on room acoustics! CLICK HERE to watch.

Trouble at Pre-Check

Pro Tip: Always pre-check your inflatable flamingo before going through TSA. A portion of the St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE) Airport transformed into a security checkpoint set for an upcoming commercial. The airport was very accommodating and film friendly in assisting with permitting. Need an airport set? For more info, CLICK HERE.
