Also in August, the USDA filed for
approval of six new BE symbols (in response to
14,000+ public comments, many of which were critical of the initial symbols proposed).
This move is the last step before final publication of a rule already late in coming. (Congress' law required the USDA to finalize regulations by July 29, 2018, and there has already been a lawsuit filed against the USDA for the delay.)
The confluence of these impending Bioengineered (GMO) regulations and class-action lawsuits means that food companies need to be especially vigilant in these fast moving developments.
Come hear top food lawyers discuss the latest on BE (GMO) foods at the Food Label Seminars in Chicago
At this seminar, Bob Hibbert, who formally led the USDA's labeling policy staff and is now a top food lawyer in Washington DC, will give his insights into major questions left to be answered on BE (GMO) foods:
* Timeline of the final rule for compliance & enforcement
* Whether the labeling disclosure requirements have changed
* Issues around updating the proposed USDA BE ingredients list
* Risks and considerations for industry implementation of the rule
* Non-GMO claim intricacies & litigation exposure
This seminar will also address other developing regulatory issues such as FDA's new Nutrition Innovation Strategy, Lab grown meat, new Prop 65 developments amongst other pivotal labeling trends.
This year, the food industry is being challenged to adjust to multiple compliance initiatives at once, which are upending over two decades of labeling strategy. Consequently, Prime Label has created these Food Label Seminars which serve as a mid-year update to its annual Food Label Conference (FLC). Structured as two one day seminars, conveniently located near Chicago's O'Hare airport, the seminars will mirror the FLC's popular blend of trending topics and practical insights.
