Final Champions Crowned on Fourth Day of Great American/USDF Region 7 & California Dressage Society Championship Show

The final group of 2019 champions were crowned Sunday at the
Great American Insurance Group/United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Region 7 and California Dressage Society (CDS) Championship Show, held September 19-22 in Rancho Murieta.
Included in that group of lucky winners was Kristina Harrison of Burbank (Los Angeles Chapter), who did especially well with Jocelyn Towne's KWPN gelding I Felix. After earlier winning the CDS Young Horse Futurity for six-year-olds followed by the Great American/USDF Region 7 Third Level Open Championship, the pair capped off an incredible week by claiming the Judith Elias Perpetual Trophy in the $1,000
CDS Third Level Open division with a winning score of 74.000%.
"This show is a culmination of all your hard work throughout the year, and to get all the top horses and riders in one area and compete together, it's a great experience," Harrison said. "I brought four horses here this year, and it was especially exciting to do so well with two of the younger horses (including Felix) after having brought them along from when they were as young as two years old. This is always a well-run show, and I have no complaints after driving all the way up from Los Angeles - I think the Murieta Equestrian Center is one of the nicest facilities on the West Coast and I really enjoyed it here. I'm so proud of my boys and can't wait to bring them back to the Championship Show again next year."

Competition concluded Sunday across a wide variety of additional CDS Horse of the Year divisions:
- Kimberly Frederick of Lincoln, Cal. (Foothills Chapter) rode her promising young Hanoverian mare Fantastica CS to impressive scores in both rounds of competition to win the $1,000 CDS Training Level Adult Amateur Horse of the Year division with an overall average of 75.474%.
- After earning two First Level Freestyle titles earlier in the weekend, Megan McQueeney of Topanga, Cal. (Ventura Chapter) and Denise Griffith's KWPN mare Ilima wrapped up their successful Championship experience with one more title, this time in the $1,000 CDS First Level Open Horse of the Year division with 73.264% to claim the McLeod Perpetual Trophy.
- Earning her second straight First Level title of the weekend, this time in the $1,000 CDS First Level Adult Amateur Horse of the Year division for the Full Cry Perpetual Trophy, was Catherine Reynolds of North Hills, Cal. (Los Angeles Chapter) who earned a combined two-test average of 71.355% with her young Oldenburg mare Hotness.
- Winning the Two-Tone Malone Perpetual Trophy for $1,000 CDS Second Level Adult Amateur Horse of the Year with an average score of 69.000% was Gundi Younger of Walnut Creek, Cal. (East Bay Chapter) riding the KWPN gelding In Time DG.
- Stephanie Gustafson of Ojai, Cal. (Santa Barbara Chapter) and her Lusitano mare Corazana earned the Dawn West Perpetual Trophy and CDS Second Level Freestyle title with a score of 69.917%.
- Earning the Stanford Perpetual Trophy for $1,000 CDS Third Level Adult Amateur Horse of the Year with a winning score of 66.465% was Kathryn Miller of San Ramon (East Bay Chapter) riding Carolyn Adams' Hanoverian gelding Winterdance.
- Hunter Chancellor of Malibu, Cal. (Los Angeles Chapter) rode Terri Chancellor's PRE gelding Farruco LXXXIX to victory in the CDS Grand Prix Open Freestyle division with 69.638% to take home the Lt. Col. Hans Moeller Perpetual Trophy.

Great American/USDF Region 7 championships were also presented in these divisions:
- High Performance veteran David Wightman of Murrieta, Cal. (Temecula Valley Chapter) has a new young star in his Oldenburg gelding Hotshot AF as the pair earned the unanimous victory in the Great American/USDF Region 7 Fourth Level Open division with 72.292%.
- Leading the victory lap for the Region 7 Fourth Level Adult Amateur Championship was Jocelyn Towne of Los Angeles (Los Angeles Chapter) riding her Hanoverian gelding Bandini to a score of 69.236%.
- San Jose's Maureen Lamb (Foothills Chapter) and her Hanoverian gelding Watulele ended their weekend on a successful note by claiming top honors in the Region 7 Intermediaire I Adult Amateur division with 68.529%.
- In the Region 7 Intemediaire I Open Championship, Amy Miller of Fullerton, Cal. (Pomona Chapter) rode her own KWPN gelding Encore straight down victory lane over a field of 23 competitors with a top score of 71.397%.
- After winning the Rubenstein Memorial Trophy in the CDS Adult Amateur Grand Prixclass on Friday,Anne Seemann of Livermore, Cal. (East Bay Chapter) once again rode her KWPN gelding Veneciano to the winner's circle with 64.022% to claim the Region 7 Grand Prix Adult Amateur Championship.
- Winning the Region 7 Grand Prix Open Championship on a score of 64.728% was Sherry Van't Riet of Calabasas, Cal. (Los Angeles Chapter) aboard her Oldenburg gelding Sir Deauville.

Juniors and young riders also wrapped up their championship divisions:
- An impressive first round score carried Constanza Zamani of Fairfield, Cal. (Sacramento Valley Chapter) and her KWPN gelding Gentle D to victory in the CDS Training Level JR/YR Horse of the Year division with a combined two-test average of 69.828%.
- Josephine Hinnemann of Murrieta, Cal. (Temecula Valley Chapter) and her gelding Tom have been unbeatable in their 13 & under equitation divisions this weekend, and on Sunday they put those skills to the test and won the day's Region 7 First Level JR/YR Championship with a score of 70.278%.
- At Third Level, Charlotte Waite of San Ramon, Cal. (East Bay Chapter) rode Jamie Pestana's Hanoverian gelding Winzalot to claim the CDS Third Level JR/YR title with 67.327%.
- Alyssa Buenting of Reno, Nev. (Sierra Nevada Chapter) and her Hanoverian gelding Del Mar followed up on Saturday's Fourth Level victory by claiming the Region 7 Third Level JR/YR Championship with a winning score of 67.313%, as well as the CDS Fourth Level JR/YR Horse of the Year title with 63.379%.
- Haley Turner of Alamo, Cal. (Carmel Valley Chapter) had a lovely ride aboard her Connemara/Thoroughbred cross gelding Orion's Sweet Rubio to win the Region 7 Prix St. Georges JR/YR Championship with 65.000%.

Wrapping up an incredible weekend of championship competition, CDS announced this year's roster of show Grand Champions, awarded to the horse and rider with the highest combined percentage in a CDS Horse of the Year test as well as a Freestyle:

Receiving the Keen Perpetual Trophy for the second year in a row for
Grand Champion at the Grand Prix level
was Sherry Van't Reit of Calabasas, Cal. (Los Angeles Chapter) riding her own Oldenburg gelding Sir Deauville.
- Christian Hartung of Vacaville, Cal. (Sacramento Valley Chapter) rode Christiane Noelting's Oldenburg gelding Desario to win the Intermediaire I Grand Championship and the Doug Downing Memorial Perpetual Trophy.
- For the Third/Fourth Level Grand Championship, Elena Flaherty of Clayton, Cal. (East Bay Chapter) and her German Sport Horse gelding Royal Chrome accepted the Major Guy de Roaldes Memorial Perpetual Trophy.
- Megan McQueeney of Topanga, Cal. (Ventura Chapter) and Denise Griffith's KWPN mare Ilima won the Atherton Dressage Society Perpetual Trophy for the First/Second Level Grand Championship.
