April 27, 2021

Dear Eighth Grade Families,

Hello and happy Spring! It is hard to believe that the weeks of Middle School are rapidly coming to a close for the Class of 2025. The purpose of this communication is to notify parents of the course confirmation forms that will become available online tomorrow (Wednesday, April 28th).

On Wednesday, eighth grade students will be able to access their Course Requests on mySchoolApp using the following steps.

After logging into your mySchoolApp account:

  • Students will navigate to their Course Requests on mySchoolApp by clicking on “My Day” and then the “Course Request” tab.

  • Using their own mySchoolApp accounts, parents and guardians can view this information by selecting a student and then clicking on the “Course Request” tab.
This list of course requests will include:

  • all required classes (English 9, Human Geography [History], Health, Freshman Research),

  • all course recommendations (math, science, world language, computer science [if applicable]) and

  • their initial elective requests (from their GoogleForm Elective Interest Survey).

We are asking that our students and at least one parent/guardian complete the Final Course Request Confirmation Form in mySchoolApp by Friday, April 30th.

  • Students and at least one parent/guardian should access the form by logging into their own mySchoolApp accounts and then clicking the “1 Form(s) to Review” that appears in a yellow banner.
  • In the comments section, students and/or parents/guardians may request adjustments to elective classes, appeal for a different course than what was originally recommended, and explain the rationale for any appeals.

  • Then both the student and a parent/guardian should sign the form to confirm this slate of course requests.

  • If a placement test is required in the appeals process, these assessments will be scheduled for June 4th, 8th or 9th. Appeals decisions will be communicated by June 11th.
  • Please click submit by Friday, April 30th. Thank you!

Additional Note for Computer Science Students: Our middle school and upper school computer science teachers reviewed all rising freshman requests for Honors Computer Science 1 and gathered information about their learning to determine whether Introduction to Computer Science or Honors Computer Science 1 would be an appropriate course for their freshman year. We encourage students and their families to follow this recommendation to ensure that Honors Computer Science 1 will be taken when each student is most prepared for success in this challenging, college-level class.

Thank you for your guidance and assistance in getting this scheduling piece completed by Friday, April 30th. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Carolyn O’Brien (obrienc@columbusacademy.org), Craig Dow (dowc@columbusacademy.org) or Cory Izokaitis (izokaitisc@columbusacademy.org).

Many thanks,

Eighth Grade Team Leader
