Dear Epiphany,

This week we'll wrap up our sermon series on Peanuts and the Gospel by sharing some of our favorite beagle's wisdom. What were Snoopy's best lines? How does he make us laugh and nurture our faith at the same time?

We began our series with Sarah's laughter in the Old Testament at the seemingly impossible prediction she would have a son and we'll conclude it with a Genesis reading of God's promise to Abram that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars. A promised fulfilled and God has the last laugh. The Old Testament is full of laughter, in fact, but....

Have you ever noticed Jesus doesn't laugh in any of the Gospels? Why not? What does that mean?

The Peanuts characters will help us consider our answers and remember the critical role of humor in the spiritual life.

Yours in Christ,
Rev'd Jen

  • Gabe Giella Moving & Open Vestry seat
  • Gabe Giella Moving - We announce the exciting news that Gabe has taken a new job in Charlotte, North Carolina at Advent Lutheran Church as their Director of Spiritual Development, beginning August 15. We will continue to be his sponsoring parish for the ordination process and maintain a connection, but we are sad to see him leave. Join us on Sunday, August 7 to bid him farewell at a special coffee hour!

Open Vestry Seat - Gabe's departure leaves his unexpired term (Feb '18) open on the Vestry. The Vestry invites any nominations for the open position (nominees must be an active, pledging member in good standing) to be submitted to Christopher Utter, Senior Warden by August 15. Christopher's contact info: 401-225-5977 or ajax.golden@icloud.com The Vestry hopes to discuss nominations at their August 17 meeting and vote to elect a new member at their September meeting.

In the rear of the sanctuary, you will notice we are designing a new sacred space for candle lighting, prayer and quiet respite. As you come into or leave the sanctuary, light a candle for a person or situation on your heart or in memory of a departed loved one. Take a prayer card from the table. Sit for a moment and listen for the Spirit. Join a friend in prayer. The space isn't finished yet, but we hope to put the finishing touches on by fall. The moveable altar has been returned to the Parish Hall, the large kneeler is downstairs and our cross is hung on the wall.

Thank you to Gabe Giella and Tom Dee for design help and to George Nunes and his grandson, Dylan, for their heavy lifting and expertise in hanging the cross!
