Final Premium Relief Bill Passes through House, Senate
The state House and Senate approved a bill Jan. 26 that will provide $326 million in premium relief to Minnesotans who buy coverage on the individual market. It is expected that Gov. Mark Dayton will sign it quickly so Minnesotans can get subsidies as soon as possible. Read more here
Governor Proposes Keeping Provider Tax, Creating a "Public Option"
Gov. Mark Dayton has proposed continuing the provider tax beyond its scheduled 2019 repeal, as well as creating a "public option" for Minnesotans who buy their insurance through MNsure. Read more here.
MMA Joins National Coalition to Reform Prior Auth
The MMA has joined a 17-member national coalition urging health plans, pharmacy benefit managers and others to reform prior authorization requirements imposed on medical tests, procedures, devices and drugs. Read more here
Senate Majority Leader to Speak at Day at the Capitol 
Michelle Benson (R-Ham Lake) will be the keynote speaker at this year's Day at the Capitol, Wednesday, Feb. 15. Benson is chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Finance and Reform Committee, and Deputy Majority Leader.  Registration is now open for the event, which offers physicians and physicians-in-training a great opportunity to interact directly with lawmakers and advocate for pro-medicine legislation. Members Vote in Favor of Proposed Bylaws Changes
Members voted, 305-19, in favor of adopting changes to the MMA bylaws as proposed by the House of Delegates in September 2016. Click here to read the revised bylaws. The voting took place between mid-December and Jan. 15.

Minnesota physicians who are interested in volunteering in underserved areas where doctors are needed most should contact the MMA Foundation's Physician Volunteer Program (PVP).
