Scot Hagerthey is the Senior Science Advisor for Ecology in the EPA’s, Office of Research and Development, Center for Public Health and Environmental Assessment. His career focus is the strategic development, implementation, management, and communication of policy and regulatory relevant ecological programs to protect, manage, and restore environmental resources. In his current leadership role, he works to provide the scientific foundations for EPA strategic, regulatory, and policy decisions. This is achieved by delivering high caliber scientific services and expertise that support high-profile, often controversial, ecological and human health assessments and developing innovative assessment methods, tools, and techniques to solve complex problems.
His scientific lifework has spanned the study of Great Lakes, Europe’s mudflats, and the Everglades. Scot earned his Ph.D. in Biology from Michigan Technological University and bachelor’s degree in biology from East Carolina University.
