Sunday 9 November. 3 before Advent. 2 Thessalonians 2.1-5, 13-end
Our hearts will be strengthened by Jesus himself
Every gift, every act of service, has a cost. From noticing the need, through aligning our hearts with the responsibility to make a difference, to signing over portions of our own resources (time, money, skills) for the purpose of blessing others - it's costly work. Even when it's Spirit-prompted, if it's done in our own strength, giving can easily morph from generous to grudging.
The end of this chapter reminds us of God's enabling love and grace, his eternal encouragement and good hope. These will power us up for the life-task set before us of good deeds and words. What a wonderful encouragement - that our hearts will be strengthened by Jesus himself for this life of generous service.
The deeds of Kingdom mercy that we enact in God's strength are a foretaste of the rhythm of heaven, the first fruits of a greater glory. It's going to be good. So good.
Clare Masters is a retired palliative care doctor, and a lay minister in the Canterbury diocese.

Parish Giving Scheme New Forms
As part of the changes to the Parish Giving Scheme website, there are new Gift Forms available. These are the forms your givers can use to set up their regular giving. Old copies of the form, either the physical paper forms, or the PDF versions, will not be accepted now that the website has been updated. Your givers can still set up their gift online, through the PGS website, or by calling up the PGS team directly, but if they want to use a form, it must be the new one.
Get in touch with the Stewardship team to request the form for your parish. They will send the PDF version, and can post a small quantity of the paper copies if required.
Get in touch: resourcingparishes@leeds.anglican.org.

Legacy Toolkit - November Activity
Talking about legacy giving can be difficult, so this toolkit is designed to support a drip-feed approach, bringing up the topic in regular, bite-size chunks.
The suggested activity for November is to look through the GraveTalk resources to encourage deeper conversations about life and death within your community. GraveTalk is a national resource supporting churches to hold a café space, bringing people together and inviting conversations through cards with various questions about life, death, grief and funerals. While these are difficult conversations to have, there is a significant lack of safe spaces for these topics to be discussed, and churches are great places for this.
Have a read through the updated pack at the link below, or find it on our Legacies and Giving in Memory webpage here.
