On March 28, 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced an expansion of the current Accelerated and Advanced Payment Program to a broader group of Medicare Part A and Part B providers and suppliers.
The Accelerated and Advanced Payment Program is intended to provide emergency funding to address cash flow issues from the disruption in claims submissions or processing and to support operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Medicare payment amounts for providers are:
- Up to 125% of critical access hospitals' payment amount for a six-month period.
- Up to 100% of acute care hospitals' payment amount for a six-month period.
- Up to 100% of all other providers' payment amount for a three-month period.
It should be noted these payments are not part of the $100B Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund authorized by the CARES Act
Healthcare providers can request these payments from their Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) immediately by submission of the required form and documentation.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the Accelerated and Advanced Payment Program or if you need any assistance in processing the application. We continue to be available to assist the healthcare industry through this challenging time.
