Welcome to Employer Digest, your monthly source for IMRF news and
information to help you stay connected with IMRF.
IMRF Financial Update
IMRF Executive Director Brian Collins shares an update on IMRF's 2019 investment returns, funded status, and overall financial position. View the video below.

Good news! Due to the improved financial position of the fund, IMRF expects that employer contributions in future years will decrease.
2019 Employer Retirement Reserve Statements
Your employer's 2019 Employer Retirement Reserve Statements will be available in Employer Access in the "Display Annual Documents" section later this month.

These statements may include:
  • Employer Retirement Reserve Statement for 2019 for your employer's regular reserve account
  • ECO Retirement Reserve Statement if your employer participates in the Elected County Official (ECO) plan
  • SLEP Retirement Reserve Statement and/or SLEP Enhancement Reserve Statement if your employer participates in the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Personnel (SLEP) plan
  • ERI Retirement Reserve Statement if your employer offered the IMRF Early Retirement Incentive (ERI)
If you have questions about these statements, please contact IMRF at
1-800-728-7971 (employers only) or use the Secure Message Center in Employer Access.
Employer Copies of 2019 Member Statements
Employer copies of 2019 Member Statements will be available in Employer Access in the "Display Annual Documents" section later this month.

Please do not share these copies with your employees; they are provided as a reference for your employer. Use them to check for errors.

Your employees will receive their 2019 Personal Statement of Benefits (Member Statement) in late February or March. This annual statement provides members with their IMRF account activity for 2019, including past earnings, contributions, and employers. Members are encouraged to review this information each year to make sure it's accurate and to resolve any problems early.

Legislative Changes to Police and Fire Funds

Legislation was passed in 2019 that, among other provisions, changes the way in which the maximum reportable wages for pension fund purposes are calculated. This change is applicable only to the Article 3 (police) and Article 4 (fire) pension funds. It does not affect IMRF. Employers should continue to follow the IMRF wage reporting rules found in Appendix A-2: Wage Caps of the IMRF Authorized Agents Manual.
