Hello!

In autumn as the leaves are releasing from the trees, I reflect on endings and how dissolution is viewed and worked with in yoga.

In my 54 years, two big endings stand out. One was not in my control. One, which I will share more on below, was more in my control, yet still, a big process of letting go.

As many of you know, I ran a yoga studio for almost two decades. At some point, I came to feel it was not my highest or best offering. I struggled with the business, class sizes, paying teachers enough and not being great at networking. But, it was a great thing to do, a beautiful community grew around it and I loved (and still love) yoga. I continued to realize how not awesome I was at that job. In addition, the pain of holding on started to feel that I was actually blocking potential for our community.

Over and over again, I would talk myself back into being the caregiver of a beautiful space and community until it got to a very clear point of burnout that I had held on for too long. In my attempts to exit and transition to the other side skillfully, I had some bumps, bruises and learned a lot. Through an almost year-long process I am happy to say that in the end it was a skillful transition and I see the energy flourishing as I had hoped!

At that point, I still had attachments, but I saw them, trusted the process, practiced and over time with a lot of grace I can say that I am free.

The point to this, is that for many of us, relinquishment and endings are not easy.

The teachings of yoga can help us with completions, which is what brings me to my upcoming online workshop with the Tantric Arts Collective:

At the Threshold of Dissolution: An Embodied Exploration of Saṃhāra.

In the Tantric understanding, saṃhāra—dissolution or reabsorption—is one of the five acts of Śiva/the Divine/You. Saṃhāra is part of the larger pattern of life: sooner or later everything comes to a completion.... an ending. And when we allow completions to run their course instead of resisting them—whether that means, like me, holding on longer than necessary or, conversely, rushing to make something end we can come into greater alignment with the larger pattern of reality, rather than imposing our own ideas about what should continue and what should end.
