ADVOCACY COMMITTEE: Mindy Aguirre, Chairperson

1. Petition updates

  • The campaign has collected over 600,000 signed petitions-- of this total, over 580,000 have already been submitted to the SOEs for review and processing!
  • 117,502 of the current total were collected by volunteers or submitted directly to the campaign by Florida voters.
  • The state has now certified 147,244 petitions: you can track this progress on the Campaign's volunteer portal.
  • We have four congressional districts that have met the Florida Supreme Court requirement with more soon to cross the threshold.
  • Those districts are - D2, D10, D13, D17.
  • We’re also expecting in the coming weeks to hit the threshold required to trigger review by the Florida Supreme Court!
  • As always, you can track our group’s and the campaign’s petition collection progress on the ACLU tracker; the password is 5301.  As of last Friday, team members have collected and mailed in 1,755 signed petitions, and our hub has submitted 2,222*!! *The discrepancy between the numbers mailed from our hub and the organization "NCJW-Kendall" is that, as a hub, we continue to mail in petitions for other groups.

2. Farmers Market volunteers needed THIS SUNDAY!: If you are available this Sunday between 9 and 11am, please sign up here or email me and I can add you to the list. Currently, we do not have anyone signed up, so we will need to give up the table if we do not have volunteers. If you are only able to volunteer for one of the hours, no problem. You can email me or write in the hours you are available directly on the spreadsheet. You can also sign up now to collect on August 27 during the 9-11am time slot.

  • LOST JACKET: If you volunteered 2 weeks ago and left a jacket, I have attached a photo-- please let me know, so we can return it to you!

3. HUB Reminder:  Don't forget, you can pick up blank petitions and drop off signed petitions (with a petition intake form) at Books and Books Suniland, Coconut Grove and Coral Gables during their store hours. You can ask for Elizabeth at Suniland and Coconut Grove locations, and Jack at the Coral Gables store if you have any questions.

Please reach out with any questions or feedback at any time!

Thank You for the Toiletries!

Keep Them Coming!

A sincere thank you is extended to those who donated toiletries

for distributions to needy locals, such as at the Lotus House and the migrants in Homestead. Keep them coming! They can be dropped off at Louise Stubins' house, 11630 SW 72nd Ave. Pinecrest. Put your name in the bag, and they can be left at my front door if I'm not home.

Jen Resnick, Connie Alter, Mindy Finkelman, Susan Schnur,
