I try not to repeat my Wednesday message on Saturday, but I'm making an exception this week because Yoga for Life just initiated group meditation opportunities about which everyone should be informed.

Since summer, the Thursday Deep Stretch Yoga class has included an invitation for participants to join me for meditation 30 minutes before the 8:00 start time. Response had been tepid (after all, it's 7:30 in the MORNING), but I've certainly benefited personally from the experience. When mindful activities begin with silence and stillness, an undeniable power emerges.

We face unique challenges in these opening days of 2021 -- sustained political disarray, extended confinement, heightened concern about the health and welfare of those we love and more. Worse, we may feel impotent to influence these situations for the better. Against such a disturbing backdrop, the strength of silence and stillness is magnified. So, from now until the end of the month (at least), I invite you to join me for meditation before ALL of my weekly classes.

I will open each class 30 minutes before its start time. We will sit in silent meditation for the good of ourselves, loved ones, community and democracy until 5-6 minutes before the class begins. At that time, we will greet each other as we always do and prepare for yoga. You are welcome to sit with me and meditate, even if you do not intend to join the yoga class. Similarly, you may attend class without joining the meditation. Or do both.

No time spent in silence and stillness, however brief, is ever wasted. Hope to see you this morning at 9:30 (or 10:00).
