It's National Library Week, April 19–25. Celebrate with this year’s theme, “Find Your Joy,” with RCPL and Honorary Chair Mychal Threets.

We’re still carrying the joy from our afternoon with Mychal—it meant so much to welcome him to our community for a celebration of acceptance, connection and all things library. “Find Your Joy” invites everyone to discover what sparks delight for them at the library.

During National Library Week, find your joy:

• Visit the library—and bring a friend along.
• Help someone sign up for a library card—one small step that opens endless possibilities.
• Try something new: a book, a program, or even a conversation. From storytimes to our Makerspace, author talks to job support, libraries are where curiosity and connection come to life.

Ways to support your Library this week:

• Get tickets for Redwood City Library Foundation's Night at the Library: Spirits and More Spirits on Saturday April 25
• Join us on April 26 for Library Day with the San Francisco Giants! Cheer on the Giants while supporting a great cause—$5 from each ticket sold will directly benefit the Friends of the Redwood City Public Library
• Can't make it to one of these events? Visit the Friends of the Library Bookstore at the Downtown Library. Sales benefit library programs.
• Volunteer - we have a number of opportunities

BE THE DIFFERENCE in the life of an adult or child with Project READ tutoring. Tutoring sessions are individualized, and designed to meet the needs of learners to improve their literacy skills and to achieve their goals. Training sessions are held at the Downtown Library.

Are you joining us for One Book, One Coast, which unites libraries and communities across California, Oregon and Washington around a shared book and conversation? The 2026 selection, They Called Us Enemy, is George Takei’s graphic memoir of his childhood incarceration during World War II. Read along and attend the programs happening in May.

REMINDER! The annual Board, Commission, or Committee (BCC) recruitment is open through Sunday, May 3. BCC members serve as ambassadors of the City and provide highly valuable community perspectives that help shape City policies. This year, we are seeking applications from community members to fill 27 vacancies across 10 BCCs. Vacancies include the Arts Commission, Senior Affairs Commission and the Library Board. Library Board Members are passionate about the mission of our Library as the learning center of our community and the place where people turn to for the discovery of ideas, the joy of reading and the power of information.
