An informed patient is an empowered patient, and support groups offer an excellent educational and emotional resource to empower men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Us TOO is here to help, with more than 200 support groups in the U.S. and abroad. While grappling with prostate cancer, it’s important for a man to invest the time and effort to get accurate information about all options for disease management. This will allow him to make an informed decision about his own treatment. Support groups provide a connection to learn from others who can speak from experience.
Prostate cancer survivors who attend meetings, sometimes with spouses/partners, find valuable information and perspective from their peers who have experience managing various aspects of their own prostate cancer. The interactive format of a support group meeting is an educational forum that facilitates conversations among group members with the common goal of empowering each other with the knowledge that comes from experience.
