Dear Friends,
This month, as we celebrate World Mental Health, we are excited to raise awareness about mental health issues and support those that are affected by them. We are proud that Jackson provides a full continuum of mental health care for children and young adults, with full commitment to meet the needs of every individual.
Now that the fall season has started, and as we focus on our overall well-being, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the outdoors. At the Waterford 5k Run/Walk at the Waterford Business District benefiting Holtz Children’s Hospital you get a chance to enjoy the beauty of Miami while supporting the children we serve. More details are highlighted below.
Helping Holtz Children’s Hospital is easier than ever by supporting the 22nd Guardian Angels Luncheon & Fashion Show or starting your own Halloween drive. We appreciate your generosity and look forward to seeing you!
Sincerely,

Donor Spotlight
Little Guardian Angels
|
|
The Little Guardian Angels are a group of young philanthropists who donate their time and energy to help change the lives of children. They are active in organizing everything from toy drives to creative activities to help our young patients. Supporting Child Life is one of their biggest initiatives, as the staff works diligently to support the well-being of the children we serve, including patients and siblings, through age-appropriate activities and recognizing their role as children who thrive through play.
In October, our Child Life team enlisted the Little Guardian Angels to help them with a reverse trick or treat day on Friday, October 29, 2021. The group is in full swing managing a Halloween Drive and collecting costumes, non-food treats and décor. For more details on how to get involved, or to start your own drive, please contact Gradon Hadaway at gradon.hadaway@jhfmiami.org.

Sponsor Spotlight
Dade County Federal Credit Union
|
|
Dade County Federal Credit Union has been an avid sponsor of Holtz Children's Hospital for several years. In fact, they have been a title sponsor of our Guardian Angels Luncheon and Fashion Show for the last three years. The credit union donated $70,000 to fund the construction of what’s referred to as “The Tranquility Room” for our nurses who care for pediatric patients. Dade County Federal Credit Union recognized that nursing is one of the most stressful jobs in the United States; nurses who treat children face even greater emotional and physical demands. The donation helped transform an underutilized room into a warm, relaxing, and revitalizing space for our nurses at Holtz Children's Hospital.
According to Dade County Federal CEO George Joseph, children’s issues have always held a special place in the hearts of the Credit Union employees, members, and the Board of Directors who feel strongly about the hospital's mission.
"Holtz Children's Hospital provides incredible, meaningful, and needed care for our community's children," said George Joseph. "Our contributions to the hospital represent not only a good deed but an investment in our community's future."
Dade County Federal Credit Union maintains 11 branches, including its mobile branch, and is a not-for-profit financial institution that is owned by the members and operated exclusively for their benefit. For more information, visit www.dcfcu.org.

October Celebration:
Grandpa Juan at Holtz Children's Hospital
|
|
Every October, the Holtz Children’s community celebrates Grandpa Juan day, honoring our beloved volunteer, Juan Manfredi. When his 10-year-old granddaughter passed away after two multi-organ transplants, Grandpa Juan turned his heartbreaking loss into a lifetime of volunteering at Holtz Children’s Hospital, and supported countless families during some of their most challenging moments. Despite his passing in 2019, Grandpa Juan will always be remembered by the Holtz community.
Now we turn to you, calling all volunteers for Grandpa Juan Day. On Friday, October 8th, Child Life staff from Holtz Children's Hospital will be collecting toys to honor Juan Manfredi. Toy donations can be dropped off through contactless drive-thru. The Child Life team (dressed like superheroes) will distribute “Gifts from Grandpa” throughout Holtz Children's.
Additionally, if you prefer, we also have a Holtz Children's Amazon wish list for
How to donate via our contactless drive-thru drop-off:
