Ten years ago, on May 1, Jackson Health System entered a new era in its history as Carlos A. Migoya took the helm as chief executive officer. Carlos embraced the challenge, reviving a financially strained health system on the brink of closure. He put Jackson on sound financial footing and transformed it into one of the largest, most respected public healthcare networks in the nation. We salute him for his commitment and dedication to Jackson Health System and to our community.

This month, we also celebrate Nurses Week, May 6 to 12, and Hospital Week, May 9 to 15, which recognize the commitment of our frontline caregivers and the health system as a whole. We invite you to pay tribute to Carlos and all our healthcare heroes by visiting our website ​and making a donation in their honor.

In addition, we are pleased to share that Jackson Health System will begin providing the Pfizer vaccine for patients who are 12 to 18 years old very soon, as we await final approval from the Food and Drug Administration. We hope this brings a level of comfort to parents who want their children protected from COVID-19.

May is also a special month for mothers. We’re delighted to share that expectant moms can look forward to giving birth in Jackson’s newly unveiled labor and delivery unit, which was designed with their safety and comfort in mind.

As we acknowledge this month’s milestones, we also wish to thank three of our community partners who recently made financial or in-kind gifts in support of Holtz Children’s Hospital. Neiman Marcus Coral Gables, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, and the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies are leaders in their respective fields because they understand the importance of giving back to the community, and we are grateful they chose to extend their generosity to Holtz Children’s.

Carlos A. Migoya Celebrates Ten Years as Jackson Health System’s CEO
Jackson Health Foundation congratulates Carlos A. Migoya on his 10th anniversary as chief executive officer of Jackson Health System. From the beginning, Carlos embraced the challenge of leading one of the nation’s largest, most complex public health systems and worked tirelessly to identify cost-savings measures, build a strong leadership team, strategically boost revenues, and focus on providing all patients and visitors with excellent customer service.

Under Carlos’ leadership, Jackson has grown in remarkable ways, adding new facilities and enhanced services, and providing world-class care for all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Jackson Health Foundation is proud to pay tribute to Carlos on this milestone anniversary. Jackson Health System Plans to Temporarily Resume Public Vaccination Program
for Pediatric Patients
As Pfizer awaits federal approval for younger patients to receive its COVID vaccine, Jackson Health System plans to temporarily resume its public vaccination program to serve patients who are 12 to 18 years old. 
 
Once the Food and Drug Administration’s decision is made – which could happen as soon as next week – Jackson will start taking appointments via its online portal at www.JacksonHealth.org. As with the adult population, second doses for this age group will be administered 21 days later.
 
UHealth Jackson Children’s Care will administer the vaccine to children between the ages of 12 and 18 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, at eight locations, including Holtz Children’s Hospital, Jackson North Medical Center, a mobile unit at the soon-to-open Jackson West Medical Center site in Doral, and five UHealth Jackson Urgent Care Centers.
 
All patients will require proof of age, such as a birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, or state ID card. Patients under 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Jackson expects to provide this service temporarily, as public and retail providers will eventually be able to fulfill all demands in our community.
The Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial: Labor & Delivery Ribbon Cutting
Jackson Health System recently unveiled its new labor and delivery unit at the Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial.

“Elevating our patient experience was at the top of our minds throughout the development of this new unit,” said Hamilton Clark, senior vice president and chief executive officer of Holtz Children’s Hospital and the Women's Hospital at Jackson Memorial.
 
The new unit features 20 labor and delivery suites, and two negative pressure rooms, which are conveniently located next to OB triage and the operating rooms within the Women’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial. Each suite features advanced technology and other resources designed to enhance the comfort, care, and safety of mothers and their newborns.
Neiman Marcus Luncheon Honors
Guardian Angels
Neiman Marcus Coral Gables provided a beautiful setting in its courtyard for “Women in Wellness,” a luncheon co-hosted by Guardian Angel members Vivian Adrian, Angela Andrade, Silvia Fortun, Ines Lorenzo Gomez, Mari Grimalt, and Maria del Carmen Sarria. 

The luncheon featured an informative question and answer session with Dr. Rachel Franklyn, OB/GYN and part of Jackson Medical Group, who was interviewed by Maria Elena Salinas, broadcast news journalist and author.

Heartfelt thanks to Neiman Marcus for supporting the Guardian Angels and donating $10,000 to Jackson Health Foundation for the benefit of Holtz Children’s Hospital.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida
Our sincere thanks to Penny Shaffer, South Florida market president for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, for delivering 30 Cheeriodical care packages for staff and parents at Holtz Children’s Hospital. The care packages included individually packaged snacks, reusable water bottles, and games. Each also included a thoughtful handwritten note from Florida Blue. ​

Members of the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies (LAAIA) came out swinging and overjoyed to see fellow golfers during their LAAIA Golf Tournament, which took place at Shula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes and benefited Holtz Children’s Hospital. Many thanks to 1847 Financial for sponsoring the Charity Hole for Holtz Children’s Hospital and to Jackie Pena, of Acentria Insurance, for raising $800 in “Beat the Broker” challenge.
