September Newsletter
With the start of the new school year, we wanted to highlight some of the activities going on at Mother Teresa Middle School (MTMS) this month.
Welcome Back!

We were ecstatic to welcome students back to the school on September 2nd! We can feel the positive energy and excitement throughout the building. For more information on the upcoming school year, programming and protocols in place, view the 2021-22 Return to School Plan, linked below.

Cannonball X Games

Middle years students had the opportunity to engage in team building activities with their classmates during the "Cannonball X Games". The games are just one of many ways MTMS provides care for the whole person, also referred to as cura personalis. This includes tending to students' intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs.
Rooted in Traditional Prayer
At a time of global uncertainty, leading with gratitude is more important than ever. Students and staff began the month of September by praying and smudging for the school year ahead. This was followed by an offering of four colours of print; red (representing life today), green (representing earth), yellow (representing spirituality) and white (representing our ancestors). When the print is tied to the tree it signifies that the prayers will be held truthfully.

Truth and Reconciliation Day
MTMS encourages the understanding that we are all Treaty people and that we need to nurture a relationship of mutual care and support. Indigenous traditions, spiritual practices and teachings are infused into the overall curriculum and woven throughout school practices. During the last week of September, students and staff will be placing an even greater focus on Indigenous education by engaging with and learning from local Indigenous artist's, Elders and residential school survivors.
