Please watch out for scammers and spammers, they are plentiful!!

1. Be Aware of Common Scam Tactics:

  • Urgency:
  • Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into making quick decisions, such as offering a limited-time deal or claiming your account is compromised.
  • Impersonation:
  • Scammers may impersonate government officials, banks, or other trusted institutions to gain your trust.
  • Easy Money/Promises:
  • They may offer easy money, work-from-home opportunities, or lottery winnings that seem too good to be true.
  • Phishing:
  • Scammers use fake websites or emails to steal your personal information.
  • Romance Scams:
  • Scammers can build fake online relationships to extract money or information.

2. Protect Your Personal Information:

  • Don't share sensitive information: Never give out your Social Security number, bank account details, or passwords to unsolicited callers or websites.
  • Secure your online accounts: Use strong, unique passwords for all your online accounts and enable two-factor authentication when available.
  • Use a firewall and antivirus software: Protect your devices from malware and hacking attempts.

3. Verify Communications and Requests:

  • Don't rely on caller ID:
  • Scammers can spoof caller ID to make calls appear legitimate.
  • Verify requests for information:
  • If you receive a request for personal information, verify it by contacting the company or agency directly through their official website or phone number.
  • Be wary of unsolicited offers:
  • Don't assume that unsolicited offers are legitimate, especially if they promise high returns with little effort.
  • Report suspicious activity:
  • If you believe you have been targeted by a scam, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or your local police department.

4. Other Important Tips:

  • Stay informed: Keep up-to-date on common scams and how to avoid them.
  • Be skeptical: If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Don't fall for freebies: Be wary of free offers that require you to pay for something upfront.
  • Check online reviews: If you are considering a new business or product, check for online reviews and complaints.

Art Talk, “Collage: The Sum of its Parts” at the Maine Art Gallery on June 5

Several artists participating in the “Whimsy” exhibit, Robin Brooks, Christine Covert, Jillian Herrigel, and Catherine Worthington, will answer questions cncerning collage in an art talk at the Maine Art Gallery on Warren Street in Wiscasset at 4:00 pm on Thursday, June 5.

They will explain how they combine images, printed material, and even found objects in their quest for creations that dazzle the eye and offer a different perspective on the nature of art. Collage was identified and defined as a fine art form in the early 20th century, specifically with the work of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.

The Maine Art Gallery offers classes for beginning and more experienced artists. Visit maineartgallerywiscasset.org  for complete details.

  • June 10: Asian Brush Painting with Kichung Lizee
  • July 7,8: Plein Air Pastel and Mixed Media with Jude Valentine
  • July 14: Discover Your Inner Artist with Kat Logan
  • July 21: Exploring Watercolor; Paint Along (Two half-day classes that may be combined)
