Discretionary Fund Sunday
On the first Sunday of every month, all cash in the collection plate goes to the Rector's Discretionary Fund which allows Father Steve to help those who come to the church in need. There is a dramatic increase in people who need food and Father Steve gives grocery store gift cards. What to take an extra step to help? Buy $15 gift cards from the grocery stores within walking distance of Grace (PriceRite and Aldi's). Drop them in the collection plate any Sunday.

Nat’l Day of Truth and Reconciliation
Oct. 1 is "Orange Shirt Day," a day to remember the Indigenous children who were sent to residential schools in the United States and Canada. It is a sad and complicated history. Grace's Saint O-kuh-ha-tah was involved in recruiting children for the Carlisle Indian School. Click here to read about SU's remembrance event.
| | One of many headstones at the Carlisle Indian School that has no name, no tribe, no date of death of the child. In 1880, Grace's St. O-kuh-ha-tah wrote this letter to Mary Burnham, deaconess of the Episcopal Church, asking about relatives at the Carlisle Indian School: "My Dear House Mother, I am very glad in my heart. Next week you go way down to Carlisle Barrack visit. Perhaps very glad to see my little cousin and my nephew at Carlisle. You will inquire Captain Pratt...I wish very much to see my cousin and my nephew...God bless you." | | |
The Carlisle Indian School cemetery, located at the US Army War College in Pennsylvania, has 186 graves of indigenous students who died while at Carlisle. A historical marker at the site reads, “The school was the model for a nation-wide system of boarding schools intended to assimilate American Indians into mainstream culture. Over 10,000 indigenous children attended the school between 1879 and 1918. Despite idealistic beginnings, the school left a mixed and lasting legacy, creating opportunity for some students and conflicted identities for others.”
