The Community Recreation E-Newsletter provides you ways to get active and have fun safely this Spring. Prince George offers an abundance of natural beauty in all seasons. In this edition, you'll find a variety of indoor and outdoor activities from the City and non-profit organizations to keep your mind and body active.

AQUATICS
NEW AQUATIC FITNESS CLASSES
New Fitness Classes at the Canfor Leisure Pool!
Come try Aqua Step, Step & Strength and Aqua Shape.
These water-based aerobics classes combine cardio and strength training.
AFFORDABLE RECREATION FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES
The Leisure Access Program (LAP) provides opportunities for residents with limited income to participate in a variety of recreational activities. Leisure Access participants receive complimentary swimming or skating admissions, discounts on lessons, and free transit for children 12 and under (accompanied by adult) on weekends.
AQUATIC LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Would you like to become a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor?
Leadership Classes are available at the Canfor Leisure Pool and Prince George Aquatic Centre.
COMMUNITY RECREATION PROGRAMS
ACTIVE LIVING FAIR
Prince George Public Library
Are you curious about all the wonderful recreation, sport and arts groups in Prince George? Come to the Prince George Library (Bob Harkens Branch) on April 22nd and see what PG has to offer. If you are on the board of a local non-profit group and want to promote your rec/sport/arts programs, check out the Library's website to participate.
JOIN TRACK & FIELD
Prince George Track and Field
If you're between 6 and 99 years old and want to try Track & Field, 2023 is their 50th anniversary and a great year for you to get involved. Its a friendly yet competitive environment for people of all skill levels.
SUMMER SAILING ON CLUCULZ LAKE
Come Sailing with the PG Sailing Association
Sailing season on Cluculz Lake begins with the club's General Meeting in April and spring cleanup in May. Dock space can be limited but on-shore camping is plentiful. Windsurf boards and sailing dinghies are available in the clubhouse and regular sailing races are hosted throughout the summer months. Membership costs $150/yr.
PRACTICE PERFECT PADDLING in the POOL
Learn to paddle in the pool before heading outside
Join the Prince George Canoe & Kayak Club for pool-based kayaking programs. Intro to Kayaking and Canoe Polo will be offered in the pool prior to the summer season at the lake.

Programs include all required equipment including boat, paddle, PFD and safety equipment.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP AT ITS BEST
Navy League Cadet
For kids ages 9-18, the Cadets help develop attributes of good citizenship and leadership, while encouraging physical fitness. Come and make new friends while learning a variety of sea activities. Branch fee of $100/cadet any additional family members $25. Uniform fee $20
SPRING INTO FITNESS
Active Living Starts with a Membership at the NSC
Start your health and fitness journey with the Northern Sport Centre! Membership includes over 40 hours of weekly group fitness and recreation such as Boomer Fit, Gentle Yoga, and Pickleball. Consider the affordable small group registered programs like Active Aging and Intro to Women on Weights - perfect for those new to fitness.
FRIENDS FUN FASTBALL
PG Girls Fastball (5-20)
Come out and play with old friends and make new ones in our fun and encouraging atmosphere. Registration is now open for girls of all skill levels. Register now.
DRAGON BOAT FOR WOMEN
Pre-season Dragon Boating Training
For fitness, friendship and open to all interested women, both breast cancer survivors and supporters. We paddle in our dragon boat from May to September, and socialize and train indoors from November to April.

PARKS AND TRAILS
Get outside and joy the parks and trails
Getting outside makes you happy and healthy. Check out the website for a complete listing of parks, trails, sport fields, dog parks, playgrounds and much more. Parks are open and welcome public use on a first come, first serve basis. Although not required, you can secure a sport for a private event at popular park locations by reserving in advance. Please note these sites are not monitored.

When you enjoy the parks and trails please remember to:
• Obey all signage and respect other users.
• Keep an eye out for natural hazards and uneven surfaces.
• Please leash and clean up after your pet and remember pets are not allowed in playgrounds or on sport fields.
• Please be bear aware, travel in groups and make lots of noise.
• Please yield to maintenance crews working to make your parks and trails beautiful.
CHECK OUT PG'S NEWEST BEACH
New Beach Volleyball Courts
For last year's Summer Games the City completed a new set of beach volleyball courts in Carrie Jane Parke beside the YMCA.
The courts are generally open and nets installed seasonally from May through September, weather permitting. The use of the courts is available to users during normal park hours (7 am – 9 pm). Please note they are open and welcome public use on a first come, first serve basis. Please be courteous and if groups are waiting adjust use accordingly.
