Who is Judge Dweynie Paul?
Judge Dweynie Esther Paul is a Kings County Civil Court Judge, elected in 2015. She is the daughter of Caribbean immigrants, and has presided over family court cases since her term began in 2016. Before that, Judge Paul practiced law throughout the state of New York for over 12 years.
Judge Paul has never wavered from her commitment to the community, having served on Community Board 3, where she developed programs and workshops that create greater access to justice. Paul is a resident of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and a graduate of George Washington University Law School, in Washington, D.C.
This year, she has a unique opportunity to continue to serve Brooklyn residents, but in a different capacity, as a judicial candidate for Kings County Surrogate’s Court. As a Surrogate’s Court judge, Paul will fight to preserve the transfer of intergenerational wealth and bridge the gap between the court and the community.
Judge Paul is endorsed by the Brooklyn Democratic Party, after winning an overwhelming majority of the vote of their Executive Committee, and by most democratic clubs in Brooklyn. She is the only candidate that was endorsed by major labor unions such as United Federation of Teachers, DC 37, Transport Workers Union Local 100, Hotel Trade Council, Teamsters local 237, and Retail Workers. Dweynie is also endorsed by journals and civic organizations including Amsterdam News, CaribNews, American Chinese Culinary Federation, Alliance of South Asian American Labor, and many more.
She has been found qualified by the New York City Bar Association and the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York Judicial Screening Panels.
